Yahtzee [Zero Punctuation] has his own show!

So, at the end of today’s Sonic Unleashed episode, there was a link to www.gamedamage.net

If you follow the link, there’s the first half-hour episode with Yahtzee and two others (who I hate to refer to as “two others”, but I can’t remember their names or if I’ve seen them in anything before) talking about games. Great fun, so far. (I liked the Duke Nukem Design Team Meeting)

Thanks-- we’ll totally have to check this out (I think his reviews are absolutely hilarious-- we’ve started choosing games based on whatever he says is awesome because his taste seems to mirror ours (Portal! Psychonauts!))

I’m not a gamer, but I watch his reviews. I watched the show. The other two guys are Yug and Matt. I thought it was funny, and it would probably be funnier if you were in fact a gamer. And (omg!) Yatzee can actually speak at a normal speed. =^.^=

But that’s half the fun! I haven’t seen this yet, I’ll have to check it out at home. Yahtzee’s too awesome to do wrong.

Heh. I had just watched this week’s game review (Sonic) and saw the webisode after. It is funny =)

I watched the whole thing. I suppose that’s a good review in itself. But I’m a fan of Zero Punctuation. I guess there’s potential for another gaming show, and he has some kind of following already. It still felt really amateur and awkward though. Needs lots of polish in both production and writing. Being angry comes across better in his reviews than it does on TV. (ugly too!)

I thought they said something about “we’re not supposed to review” this or that. I don’t know how that works, but it contributes to the awkwardness. Maybe if it gets picked up they’ll get the press clearance for lots of reviews, and more leeway.

The stealth skits were funny and they could do those forever no doubt. The MMOG thing has potential, but not if it’s just them trying to start flat, and already hating it. They should get somebody more involved to help them. Like the WoW movie community, etc…

ooooh goodie. Can’t wait till I get home so I can watch the new review and check out the webisode. Thanks for the heads up!

“Someone needs to get that guy on the right side of the couch some tranquilizers, the guy in the middle some mild sedatives (and some acting lessons) and the guy on the left some prozac.”

(From the Youtube comments.)

I kept on getting distracted picking out the locations from the outside shoots. (Was obviously filmed in my home town of Brisbane)

It was OK, I thought Yahtzee was a bit awkward, self conscious maybe? through much of it.

It was obviously a pilot made on a shoestring budget. I think there’s some potential there for a production company to step in and provide a budget and production values, then it would look good.

I didn’t think a great deal of it, to be honest. I don’t think Yahtzee’s quiet rage schtick worked that well and the other two didn’t do much for me. I’m a gamer but I need more than a few skits and long conversations about games I have no intention of playing (especially when I have the far superior Zero Punctuation reviews for my game humour fix).

That said the stealth missions were funny, I loved the way the guy crouching did that constant bobbing up and down movement - it’s so true!

I watched about half of it. These people have faces fit for radio. Yahtzee is the only character on there worth keeping, and barely. I think the show needs time to grow. It also needs a little more structure. They need a straight man to be the main person talking to the camera. None of them can pull it off.

I like the concept quite a bit and I find the droll Brit-Aussie thing fairly amusing, though as a very casual gamer, probably a non-gamer by most peoples’ standards, perhaps my level of critique is pretty forgiving. In many ways the production value was really appealing, it wasn’t so bad and low budget (as most internet/YouTube virals are) that I wanted the throw things and it wasn’t so tightly controlled and overproduced that it felt fake and Xtreme!!!11one11||!

It could use a little better structure however, as a massive fan of Zero Punctuation I love Yahtzee’s shtick but I think he could be better used in this show. Perhaps having him involved in every discussion is too much, and he’d be better utilized in isolation so that he can rant about whatever he wants. Having him sitting in and being snarky about the other two guy’s commentary the whole episode sort of muted his effectiveness.

I dug all the little interludes. The Game Design brainstorming was funny, if a little predictable and overdone. The stealth gaming thing was spot-on. I thought the viewer email thing was completely pointless and cliche.

I agree with **LOUNE **that a straight-man acting as host or emcee would probably be best. Having one guy steer the discussion would make the off-hand witty comments funnier and more pointed I think.

I especially liked the beginning where they highlighted some of those small internet games. Sometimes those types of games are the best for folks like me who don’t get any enjoyment form FPSs and MMORPGs produced but the big names.

Colour me meh. Those Aussie guys are quite annoying. Too much like three gamers goofing about. Stop laughing at everything! Yahtzee should save his material for ZP.
