Yankees_1996_Champs: troll or dumbass

He definitely gives of a “How do you do, fellow kids?” vibe.

It’d be a lot easier if he spelled his name “urbanredneck3”.

That’s when he was born.

A 4channer, master of online video games, and likes to stir up liberals. Or maybe a bot.

Go SOX!!

Leave him alone. He’s just asking questions.

Does he have his parents’ or guardians’ permission to do such a thing? I mean, we say “fuck” and stuff, so could be damaging.

I’m surprised that there’s any debate here. Yankees_1996_Champs is a textbook example of a concern troll.

His syntax sounds distinctly Russian to me (particularly his use of adverbs, e.g. “vocally endorsing”), but I’ll defer to language experts on that.

Troll and dumb ass are not mutually exclusive. I think he is both.

Wasn’t he the guy who accidentally posted a link to Russian Wikipedia? Or, was that another troll?

I think I’m going to stop reading threads that start with, “others seem to think that …” Tell us your own position or GTFO. It’s all concern trolling.

ETA: Nope, that was Manwich who posted the Russian webpage.

It is pretty much this.

I figure he is a minor troll and a major dumbass.

This. When moderation on the board gets their footing again, I’d really like to see a push for moderating this sort of topic dump. He doesn’t engage in the conversation, because he’s just in it to drop a turd and watch everyone wrestle in it. I don’t see the Russian angle - I just think he’s an idiot kid who likes to troll.

Yankees_1996_Champs: troll or dumbass

He can be both.

He has admitted (due to overwhelming evidence) that English isn’t his first language.

Whether that first language is Russian or not, I’ll leave as an exercise to the reader, but if it drinks vodka like a duck…

Recursive.

I have no idea whether or not he in a NYer, but English as a 2nd language is quite common in NYC and among Yankee fans.

True, but language aside, the ‘odd’ assertions about American culture in general (“people think…” and the like) and some of the stranger bits of sports fandom (like being supportive of Tom Brady and the Pats while simultaneously a NY sports team fan) produce serious cognitive dissonance.

Not saying it’s impossible, but it’s a lot simpler for me to conclude he’s a foreigner pretending poorly and stupidly to be in the US than an unusually clueless New Yorker.

That might explain the weird take on Long Island (even though that’s not where he lives) being a political weather vane for the entire state of NY. Still, doesn’t make him a professional troll. Just a trolling dumbass.

First language is NYawk?

And he’s a cute polite little pinniped too! :penguin: [Using a penguin because, to my utter shock, there’s no sea lion smiley, tho there is an Octopus one… :octopus:]

Welp, someone has to take up ITR Champion’s slack…

The preoccupation with race and white working class voters aligns with Russia’s efforts in 2016 and again this year.

"The Russian government has stepped up efforts to inflame racial tensions in the United States as part of its bid to influence November’s presidential election, including trying to incite violence by white supremacist groups and to stoke anger among African-Americans, according to seven American officials briefed on recent intelligence.

“Russia’s lead intelligence agency, the S.V.R., has apparently gone beyond 2016 methods of interference, when operatives tried to stoke racial animosity by creating fake Black Lives Matter groups and spreading disinformation to depress black voter turnout.”

Well, that’s my first language, so I say no to it being 1996’s first language. :sunglasses:

I don’t follow nor care about him closely enough to know his entire posting history, and have taken to actively ignoring his threads. I’m simply against posters using poor English skills as “proof” one is a Russian troll (complete with all the political implications). SDMB had trolls aplenty before 2016. Trolls are going to troll, and clueless idiots are going to be clueless idiots, and 1996 could be either or both.
