YAPBT (Yet Another Princess Bride Thread)

My parents are visiting for Thanksgiving, and we watched TPB last night (they had never seen it). They really enjoyed it, as I knew they would. One thing I noticed, though…
I’ve seen this many times, but I never caught this before: How did Inigo end up with his Father’s sword? Didn’t the six-fingered man kill his father for it?
ETA: I can’t conceive of how it ended up in his possession.

This is all the information we’re given (in the film, at least). The six fingered man killed him, but did not take the sword. I assume that since the six fingered man wasn’t offering him the agreed price, Inigo’s father never even showed him the sword.

According to the book, Inigo was there when the Count killed his father, and the villagers came quickly to investigate, the Count got off by pointing out that Inigo’s father was handling the sword in question and claimed self defense; with no status Inigo’s testimony was not going to go anywhere.

Even though the Count had the power, it would stretch any excuse if he had taken the sword just there in front of all the others that knew how much it was worth it, the Count was also aware of the danger of the mob taking justice in their own hands if he gave them any direct evidence of thievery. So he was leaving in a hurry but was stopped by Inigo standing in his way and demanding a duel.

A DUCK!

I may be mixing movies…

I do not believe that word means what you think it means…

Thanks for the answer - now I don’t have to die embarrassed.

Life moves pretty fast.

These walls are funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That’s institutionalized. They send you here for life, and that’s exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyway.

…oops, I meant to say…

Life IS pain, your highness! Anyone who says differently is selling something.
