Yarnie Dopers - Best way to Destash Yarn for Money?

If you don’t sell it all and then just plain want to get rid of it rather than move it, you might donate it to the Linus Project if you have a nearby branch, and let their volunteers use it to knit/crochet charity blankets for needy kids.

You all are totally nuts! All this over YARN?!???

Now, if it were beads, that would be totally different…

What I want to know is where did the verb “destashing” come from? I take it’s meant as a synonym for divestment, but I’ve never heard the word before. Is it some sort of knitting slang?

Well, knitters call the yarn that they buy and have around them “stash” (especially if it’s yarn you got with no particular project in mind). So if you’re going to get rid of your stash, it’s destashing.

How many skeins of the teal KP Cadena are you selling? I’m interested, how much do you want for it?

Okay, I’ve waited a bit, haha. Like Jenny, I’m interested in the Cadena, but in the cranberry color.

Well, I’m moving across the country, am pregnant and will have to pay for COBRA for a few months so I have insurance when I give birth, and my husband won’t start working until September, so yeah, I’m selling it!

If I have stuff left that I still want to get rid of close to the move, I’d donate it, but I’m really trying to sell what I can first.

Plus, most of it’s not machine washable, or acrylic, which is what most charities want for donated items.

Sounds good! We can hash out details over PM or email.

As for the other stuff, I can’t remember offhand how much I have of everything, and I also want to give Mrs. LSLGuy a shot at it since they were second in line asking for stuff! I’ll update in a few days once she’s had a look, and then go from there.

Let’s hope this thread is still OK, I really was looking for advice, didn’t mean this to turn into a “hey, buy my yarn!” thread.

I have no problem with this thread, BBRP. You were not actively soliciting sales, it just sort of happened that way.

But take any details to PM or email. Probably would be the best thing to do.

Email sent – you have some lovely yarn to destash!!

It’s not just yarnies, either. Beaders, scrapbookers, quilters – they all use the term. I think zweisamkeit hit the nail on the head. We’re really not talking about leftovers from completed projects. We’re talking about the stuff we couldn’t resist and figured we’d use it “sometime.”

And we circle like vultures when someone decides they need to destash. It’s too good to pass up and we’ll use it…sometime.

Thanks Rico!

For anyone looking for yarn, email is best & it’s in my profile - I’ve had issues getting into my PMs at times, and I check my email a few times a day.

How do you think I got at least half the yarn I’m getting rid of now?

Oh now look what you’ve done…I heard tygre calling from the other room “I bought some more yarn, is that OK?”

“It’s alright, sweetheart, we’ll get the extension to the house for your stash paid for soon…”

I read the OP, and all I could think of was “Coffin Cosies! ™ New from RubberPiggy Enterprises.”

I predict that they will be the next Snuggie.
