A great thing about Chicagoland is the access we have to truly ethnic restaurants that cook truly native dishes. On 35th and King Drive, only twenty blocks from the University of Chicago Medical Center, is a Senegalese restaurant that features delicious Senegalese chicken, lamb, and vegetarian dishes. Went there last night, and the food was every bit as good as you would get in an upscale restaurant in Senegal.
If you’re ever in that area or, if you are ever at the U of C Medical Center for any reason, it’s worth the short trip in lieu of eating in any of the food choices that are in the center.
Yum! I’m not in the Motor City very often, but I will make a note of this. My SiL travels a lot, so she collects info like this because there is a real chance she may be able to use it.
My wife and I love African cooking. Will keep Yassa’s in mind next time we’re in the Chicagoland area, and @JKellyMap , thanks for the Detroit area recommendation!
Just to give the OP another reason to come to the Detroit area, one of our very favorite restaurants is The Blue Nile in Ferndale (just north of Detroit). Delicious Ethiopian food.
There’s also a Blue Nile in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which I think is the same as the Ferndale restaurant, but we’ve never eaten there.
