Yay! Novocaine!

As I type this, the novocaine is wearing off. On an otherwise beautiful (albeit windy) day, I will soon feel the awfulness that comes from the second half of a root canal procedure. This makes me sad. :frowning:

Now I just have to worry about getting my wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday.

And all because of this SDMB thread. Ahh, the power of the teeming millions.

But otherwise, I’m doin’ good. And you? Any novocaine sagas for anyone else?

I got a root canal once. I made the guy put in extra Novacaine cause I wanted to be sure it wouldn’t hurt.

I think he started getting annoyed after the 8th shot.

My new motto:

Don’t ever upset your dentist.

Or anyone with access to tools you can’t personally identify.

Or anyone with access to tools that you can.

Novocaine? Ha. You might as well give me a Tylenol.

I used to fear this sort of thing.
Then I met my dentist. He is the greatest man on the face of the planet. He gives you NO2 for cleanings. He gets you so juiced on gas that you don’t even notice the 4 or 6 novocain shots you get. You have aback massager, and a TV remote, and headphones if you want to listen to a CD. (For the record, Dexter’s Laboratory while gassed is quite good). And then, to top it off, he sends me packing with a 10/650 hydrocodone/acetaminophen script.

I used to fear going to the dentist. 4 years ago, I had so much work to get done that it was pure insanity. Now, I have an appointment on January 14th, and I am ALL DONE. 13 visits over 4 years, and about 15 grand later, I am in all done. Jeebus bless that man.

I don’t understand why all dentists don’t give you the gas if you want it. Everyone I know goes to this guy, all from referrals. It seems like a good business move.

I should clarify, he doesn’t give me that prescription after a cleaning.
He gives those after a root or something major.

I refuse novocaine. I prefer the pain to that horrible feeling of being numb. The dentist really really recommended it during a recent root canal, but at least he went light.

The worst I’ve had was wisdom teeth pulled without it. That was less than pleasant, but not crazy pain.

Many formulations of novocaine have adrenaline in them to help the efficacy of the anesthetic…

Well, when they give that to me, and hit a blood vessel, I get jittery and anxious and heart-fluttery…

I really don’t like novocaine. I wish I could find a dentist that still uses nitrous oxide and pentathol.

well it’s worn off now and it doesn’t seem like the worst thing ever. 3 Ibuprofen and a glass (or 8) of wine and I should be sleepin’ like a baby in an hour.

For the record, I’m going under general anesthetic on Tuesday. It may make me a major wimp, but I’ve been putting this off for years mostly because I’m freaked out. The pain doesn’t scare me, the sound does. ::shiver:: I also believe that with the wonderful medical technology available today, pain is not something we should have to endure. There’s drugs for that.

huh/
I’ve had so many novocaine shots in my life…
Had more than 20 permanent teeth pulled, so many cavities.
I love the feeling when it wears off.

I have 5 teeth left(connected) so don’t expect much done in my life.
Had a root canal started years ago, never finished it, got the tooth pulled 2 months ago.

No one would ever give me gas. Meanies.

His first name isn’t Morris, is it?
I loved my dentist in Atlanta. The opportunity to have the gas was there, although I really, really dislike the mask over my face, so I chose not to have it, instead going with just novocaine. He made sure I was very numb before he would begin a root canal, a filling or whatever, and then he worked quickly and well.

After a bad experience with a root canal with one dentist at the same group, I was very concerned about having another one, but I requested a different dentist, and got Morris. So I kept going and got all my dental work up to date before I left town. <–my teeth now.

not Morris, Roger. Sweet, sweet Roger.
