Some did that a number of years ago (linking to a site with non-stop pupups), and I recall a mod then not being too happy about it.
somebody at work get a window that won’t close, and a bazillion pop ups is very close to a good working definition of NSFW. To do this in light of what Marley23 (you know the FNG moderator) posted up thread is being an ass.
I know the truth hurts sometimes, but Tuba just called a spade a spade, or maybe a fucking shovel.
As far as moderators snarking when they give warnings, that is a long and hallowed tradition around here. Banhatten was probably the best at it, but all the mods have done this from time to time.
Get our it.
I did it to my wife on her cell phone and she thought it was funny. She likes to laugh and have fun and shit. I guess my point is, if she thought it was funny, it probably was. She and her coworkers yuk it up all day long.
Sorry to double post but I didn’t want to address this to DT . I don’t think Tuba is being an ass. It’s because she is an authority figure, it just seems that way.
Geez, Garfield226, you get tired of beating on me and go in search of someone else whose words you can twist into some pseudo-offense?
Tuba was being a moderator. YOU, however, are being an ass.
Wow. A disingenuous liar 9/11 conspiracy nut is attacking me. Whatever shall I do?
Rickroll the fuck out of them?
That depends. Are you part of the conspiracy ?
Now, cut that out. If you leave him alone he won’t bother you. You know, turn the other cheek and whatnot.
That’ll teach her.
Oh, and, you’re a whiny cunt, Garfield.
Posting something like that is an assholish thing to do. I agree completely on that point.
I haven’t been here long and I’m still getting a feel for this place, so please correct me if I’m wrong. Regular posters aren’t allowed to insult other posters outside of The Pit, right? If I was to call someone an absolute ass in ATMB I would get in trouble and rightly so. But if a mod/admin does it, it’s okay? Do they have their own set of rules and aren’t subject to the rules posters have to follow?
Hmmmm…
I agree that Ponder Stibbons broke the general rule about posting NSFW links. I agree that TubaDiva was correct in warning him. I also think that TubaDiva possibly broke a rule herself. Snarking is one thing, but, her ambiguous phrasing and hostile attitude lends ample support to thinking that she directly insulted Ponder Stibbons.
Let’s take a look at the clause in question:
This can be parsed two ways. One: “By doing this action, you are acting like an ass.” Two: “By doing this action, you are showing how big an ass you are.”
I think TubaDiva meant the former interpretation, but, given her history of extreme snarkiness, the point is open for debate.
When I was a kid, I didn’t swear much at all. It was rude, crude, impolite, etc. But every once in a while, in extreme circumstances, one of my parents might drop one. Sure got my attention.
A long time ago a lawyer told me that the truth is the ultimate defense. So can a moderator posting as a regular poster call you an ass or a troll? Outside of the pit, of course, the answer is no they cannot. But if on the other hand they are acting as a mod with their mod hat or moderator underroos on can they tell a poster he was an ass or a troll? Sure of course they can.
It would be a pretty strange warning if it read like this
If the poster in question was in fact an ass, a moderator in their official capacity can make note of it. If they are just participating in a thread as a poster, then no.
It is all about context.
It didn’t seem to work with Tuba. Seriously, some people just roam the boards looking for things to become irate about, even if it doesn’t concern them whatsoever. Garfield seems to be one of those people.
Yeah. It’s like a conspiracy against her.
Just the opposite. Since she is an authority figure she really shouldn’t have said that.
<speaking as a poster>
Holy crap, are you kidding me, Garfield226? Telling someone they’re being an ass for posting a link full of cascading popups merits this whiny piece of crap Pitting? This has got to be the stupidest Pitting I’ve ever seen, and I just closed a thread pitting a keyboard with a sticky letter ‘h’. You come off like a petulant four year old with a chip on his shoulder looking for any excuse to get outraged.
And spare me your paying customer bullshit. The paying customers of this site don’t pay to post at a message board so they can get spammed by cascading crap links. And they deserve representatives who will give jerks more than a tepid “please don’t do that please” when they step way over the line. Rinse the sand out of your vagina already.
You’re smarter than this.
I’ve already posted that I think the link was inappropriate. It’s the calling someone an ass for it in ATMB (especially after calling out another poster for the ass…door comment earlier) that warrants the pitting.
And the paying-for-now customers deserve representatives who respect the rules they’re supposed to enforce.
Worthing of a Pitting? No.
But worthy of an apology, yes. Especially since she warned someone in that same thread for almost the same offense.
Tuba used strong language as part of an administrative action. There are no rules about the language staff are required to employ when issuing warnings. Had she called someone an ass in a regular MPSIMS thread while interacting as a poster, you’d have a point. She didn’t. You don’t.
