Yeah, I guess it's been a while since we've done this... (Tuba being an ass)

I’m going to opt to take this completely without irony.

Meanwhile, I think it’s hilarious that Tuba can apparently call someone a “jerk” but not an “ass”. Do we want to compile an entire lexicon of derogatory descriptors that mods are allowed to use outside of the pit? Who has time for this?

Sure, that’s easy. Here is the list in its entirety:

Believe it or not, there is actually a complete set of rules already in place.

Of course, you’d never know it from looking at Tuba’s posts specifically, seeing as she’s violated so many of them…

If you hold down enter, you get through the whole song pretty dang fast. The very last box closes the song by the first “never gonna give”. It doesn’t loop.

If you’re not smart enough to do it, then maybe you don’t belong on the big wide internet without your mommy holding your hand.

Ha ha ha. Because I thought you came off as an uptight asshole, but otherwise I really don’t give a shit. If you feel the same way, I think we can just crank up some Michael Bolton and chill together.

bangs on the post above with a broom handle

Hey, you kids turn that crap DOWN!

Well, I clicked on it in another poster’s reply to you, and there was no warning. It was a pain in the ass, and I really don’t see what you got out if it to warrant that.

It’s better because it uses the term “jerk” which is in the rules. She’s not NECESSARILY calling him a name, she’s citing a rule that he’s violating. Whether that necessarily means you are a jerk is open to interpretation.

For my money, Ponder was a jerk and an asshole and stupid clod for posting the popup rickroll site. But Tuba shouldn’t have called him any of those names outside the Pit.

Well, if you wanna you can read the fucking rules and see how many derogatory terms are directly linked to them. I’ll bet “jerk” is the only one. Genius.

Oh, really? So if someone is violating the “don’t be a jerk” rule you Mods must come up with some less offensive term? Like what? “rude person”? “Insensitive”? “Uncouth”? “Outre”? (Stop me when I get too silly …)

First of all, I am not a “you mods.” Why is that so difficult for some people to grasp? Secondly, why must the mods use any label at all? Breaking a rule to enforce a rule is…what’s that word? Starts with an “H.”

Ya know when you were pitted, I read the thread, and went  . I thought it was a waste of electrons.
However your comments in this thread are forcing me to reconsider that position.
Ponder was an ass to post that link. He got called on it. Now you are acting like an ass also. :dubious:

Why, because I don’t happen to think what he did was all that egregious? Please. It was abundantly clear from the context that whatever the link led to, it was going to be pretty annoying. That was the FUCKING POINT. Really, how difficult was this conversation to follow:

Everyone: Waaaaaah! I clicked on the link and it was eeeeeevil!
HD: Just check the Status Bar to see what it is!
Ponder: ORLY? Well here.

How stupid do you have to be not to expect something pretty outrageous?

No problem, Fast Relief!

Well said. You’re right, I shouldn’t.

She was utterly and completely in the right here. That was not just a joke, that was a dangerous link. Ponder was an idiot to post that link. Folks- it wasn’t a “rickrolling” link, it was a link that opened dozens of ever-spawning pop-ups, many of which were merrily trying to load Malware onto your computer. It could caase many dudes systems to crash.

Or maybe you were talking about the “insult”. “Have your lost your everloving mind?” Oh, yes, that’s a horrible personal insult- no, wait it’s not. Or maybe it’s the “you are an absolute ass” which would be an insult taken out of context. That’s a judgement call, and if it hadn’t been Tuba, I imagine there would have been a Mod call- but one that did not rise to a full out “Official Mod warning”. Yeah, Ok. She didn’t “cross a line” so much as the tip of her big toe smudged it a bit. :stuck_out_tongue:

And I don’t think she is being treated all that differently. I have seen some of the ore respected posters here go a tad over the line on a rare occassion, and they didn’t get an “Official Mod warning” either. It does seems to depend on how seriously you are provoked, and Tuba was seriously provoked.

No, it wasn’t.

Yes, it was.

No, they weren’t.

There’s no evidence out there that this link is anything other than a (mostly) harmless, if annoying, prank. If you have some that you didn’t simply pull out of your ass because you got your undies in a bunch, I’d like to see it.

What kind of browser are you using, anyway? I’m using Firefox. If it was the address posted by Darth Sensitive earlier in this thread, I got the video on a plain white page, and when I tried to close it, a notification box with a line of the lyrics and an “OK” button. I push “OK” and get the next line. “Clever,” I think, and hold down the Enter key until it goes away. BFD.

She was not “seriously provoked” by that link any more than any other poster was. The link wasn’t directed at her, so how was she “seriously provoked” by it? Even if she was, being “seriously provoked” has never given anyone license to break the rules around here, and there are many cases where a poster is insulted outside the pit, the poster responds in kind, and both parties are subsequently told to knock it off. Being provoked is no excuse for breaking the rules, and never has been.

You “imagine” there would have been a mod call, when there WAS indeed a mod call in that very thread by that very admin over that very word? I bow to your powers of prognostication. She crossed the line by insulting a member outside of the pit, which is against the rules. But they don’t apply to her, as we’ve seen repeatedly.

There’s a word for someone who intentionally annoys other posters; starts with a J… or a T… take your pick.

Regards,

Fast Relief!

Yeah? What has exactly Jack-squat to do with…?

See post #93; repeat ad nauseum.
