Yeah, it's not a crime. But I'm thinking about filing charges. Douchebag prosecutor f

Bolding is mine.

Your point is taken, but aren’t you making an assumption by saying the reporter DID use the quotes out of context? We don’t know either way right now.

That was my first assumption, noted in the OP. The follow up yesterday was that there was no follow-up in the paper.

Today I expected a correction. None found.

Seems the reporter got the quote right.

Or people that just don’t read the cites and lack of corrections from said prosecutor. But I must be wrong. The reporter embellished.

Perhaps, but I find it telling that the prosecutor is never directly quoted about considering charges. The only direct quotes are general statements regarding the crime of child abandonment.

Think of it this way. Here’s Johnny Reporter, fresh out of journalism school, trying to make a name for himself so he can get out of that podunk North Dakota town and find a job with a real news organization. He digs up an incident from the police blotter (which, as you may notice, actually happened a week before the article was printed) and goes interviewing people about it, including the state prosecutor. Now, consider that the prosecutor probably had NO knowledge of the incident before Johnny Reporter dials him up – so when asked, “Are you going to file charges?” of course he’s going to respond with, “I’ll check with social services first.” It would be stupid to say either “yes” or “no” without all the facts.

Perhaps I’m way off base, and yeah, I’m pretty skeptical about the media in general. But it’s ridiculous to start screaming for this man’s job, when all he appears to be doing IS his job. As for the follow-up article…why would he correct his statement, when he said nothing wrong in the first place?

Where? In Pierre or Rapid City?

Are you serious? No, really. Are you serious in saying there’s no direct quote?

Ah, there it is. A podunk North Dakota town. Got it. Nothing to see here. Pass on through Fargo. Just cows and inbreeders. [Deleted a rough reference, your mother is a good woman despite you]
