If you go to the Freeper site, it has the whole grisly fandango. Remember, shields up! And wear a condom.
I didn’t think you people needed a history lesson. John Kerry was far more than your everyday, run of the mill war protester.
He met with representatives of the enemy, overseas, on his own initiative. He testified before congress, giving his own opinions, opinions that I think were false, as facts. He was able to get TV coverage of these events.
Beyond that, I’m not going to argue the Vietnam war. The last time I did that was in October or maybe November of 1978. If I stay in my right mind, I’ll never argue about that war again.
The OP asked if I was happy with my vote for Bush. I’m happy with it to the extent that it was a vote against Kerry.
Maybe not. I never seriously looked into it, since he was eliminated rather early in the primaries.
Hate to smooch and run, but I gotta go now…makes kissy-face at 'luci, et.al.
Dear me. I see. Well, thank heavens you didn’t vote for a President who would be willing to give Congress his false opinions as facts, eh?
Nah. John Carter is just a Gentleman from Virginia. Any allegations that he cavorted with 6-limbed, green-skinned nymphs is pure speculation!!
Yep, allegedly. After the war. I think it was in Paris. He wore green; the North Vietnamese wore red.
Hey, one was trying to stop a war and one was trying to start one. Night and Day.
This thread has nothing to do with mothers, mercy, fucking, or morons. You cited Kucinich as an authority, and it’s just wrong. Geez, is there not end to your denisty?
It takes the prick of a point to get under your skin. Is Finn Harry and you Lloyd, or vice versa?
Fuckin A right about that! In spades! Your average grunt wasn’t a Yale grad, articulate, good looking in that desperately earnest, Opie kind of way. They craved someone like him who could articulate their points. But, Lordy, what a stiff! Those early Doonesbury satires caught him pretty well.
He could have coasted. He could have exploited his service and his medals, made quiet politician noises about his “doubts”, and simply waited. But he didn’t, he went all out, balls to the wall, for what was right! Besides his life, what can a man offer his country but his ambitions? Which he stood ready to toss aside. He didn’t have to, nobody would have known. He volunteered. Again.
(The contrast to a certain drunken frat-rat/failed businessman and gleeful executioner is rather stark, don’t you think?)
Yep. So did Eugene MCarthy. So what? He wasn’t pretending to have any power to negotiate. He merely asked for terms. You don’t like it, tough noogies. Don’t make it treason.
The TV coverage would have happened anyway, being, as it was, a Senate investigation. Surely you don’t imagine they went there because Kerry was so famous?
His opinions, unlike your own, have a foundation in fact. How many My Lai? I have no idea. But, then again, neither do you. Difference being, I don’t pretend to. One was too many, far, far, too many.
Secondly, he explicitly stated: this is what they told me, and I believe them. Since when is that treason? When speaking truth to power is treason, it will be over my dead body. I was proud to stand with them, and honored that they let me. And I listened to them. Perhaps if you had, looked into thier eyes as they told you what they saw, what they heard, what they did!..“treason” wouldn’t leap so glibly to your lips. Then again, perhaps not.
Certainly not! You only want to swoop down, drop your slur, and retreat behind a dignified pose. You got called on it.
Don’t start nothing, won’t be nothing. But pull this shit again, and I will bust yer chops the moment I know about it. Guaranteed.
Bush had the highest trough approval rating as of Friday when his month end gallup pole came out and showed a 39%

You need to subscribe to get more than the thumbnail.
Comparing apples to apples against the previous last seven Presidents that is the highest trough reading of all of them as we can see from Kimstu’s post #188 which shows:
Kennedy 56%
Eisenhower 48%
Bush * 29%
Johnson 35%
Clinton 37%
Reagan 35%
Nixon 24%
Ford 37%
Carter 28%
I had heard this on Friday from Rush Limbaugh MEGADITTOS!! who I’m worship and follow in all things. I know it’s accurate because he tells me his independant fact checker gives him a 98% plus rating.
When Elucidator produced the 35% number, I thought he was referring to Friday’s number.
Of course, that is no longer the case. CBS has the new 35% poll. I know far better than to argue with the legendary impartial and carefully researched juggernaut that is CBS news. It’s true because Dan Rather tells us so.
So, Elucidator is correct to doubt me. Rush Limbaugh was correct when he spoke, and it is I, your humble servant who have made an error.
Of course, if we want to compare apples to apples (which I did not specify in my previous post) than I am still correct.
Never fear though, Bush has 3 more years.
Personally, I think we oughtta attack another country. That always helps the approval numbers, and I attribute the recent drop in Bush’s popularity to the fact that we really haven’t invaded anybody new recently.
Iran’s kinda pissing me off lately, and I figure while we’re in Iraq and we have all that stuff sitting there… we might as well.
Those of you who feel your conscience cannot allow you to vote for a major party candidate:
Why do you vote for any party’s candidate? Since your concern is matching up your views most precisely with a candidate, why not write in your perfect choice?
I cannot believe that even a third party candidate clicks all your tumblers just perfectly. So, you must be compromising on some values to cast a vote for a third party guy. Yet you cannot, in good conscience, compromise enough to cast a vote for a candidate closest to your values that may end up representing your values?
Why vote at all?
You and or Rush are still, um, confused and or full of shit (you choose which goes with which). Or maybe I’m confused. What does “highest trough” mean?
In any event, Bush had achieved lower that 39% well before Friday.
See http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm
Back on October 5th, CBS had him at 37% and Pew had him at 38%.
By the way, today ABC released a new poll that has Bush at 37%.
37% Bitches!
Might as well what, pull our tanks out of Baghdad and pray the shiites don’t attack our weakened rear when we go after their good buddies in Iran?
Why does this matter?
It’s not like he’s up for re-election anytime soon, or ever. You’re stuck with him. It’s quite seriously the most meaningless, irrelevant opinion poll that you could possibly devise.
Highest low.
Again. You are correct. I was vague in my initial statement. I was comparing Month end Gallup poll numbers. Yet, I did not specify this.
Other polls show other things and there are tons of them and I did not specify which I was using. The way I said it was a comparison against all polls. Rush and my cite are just using month end gallup polls so that apples are being compared to apples.
I’m sorry. I know you trust me in all things, and I let you down. I was wrong.
No really, it’s true.
Actually, the ABC poll has his rating at 39%. However, there is an AP-Ipsos poll that DOES have Bush at 37%. There are only two problems with that poll:
- The sample is 40% Republican, 49% Democrat (at best).
- It contains the wishy-washy “mixed feelings” answer that could denote either approval or disapproval and is not counted either way.
Other than that, you are 100% correct.
Lest young minds be sorely impacted…
He’s kidding.
Definitely kidding.
Totally in earnest. His admiration for me, his lodestone.
Back to the kidding. Whooo, doggies!
Ha, ha! Ha! Ha?
Sorry, didn’t include the link to my previous post.
First off, I don’t appreciate your referring to our Iraqi friends as fecal matter, but if you’re going to display your bigotry in such fashion why compound it with poor spelling?
Secondly, we’ve already conquered Iraq and John Kerry, Cindy Sheehan and all you guys keep telling me how it’s time to withdraw our troops which means it must be perfectly safe to leave as the Iraqi authority’s have things well in hand.
But you never say where we are supposed to withdraw them to.
Well, Iran is just right around the corner. They have oil. They have WMDs, or we can say they do, same difference.
I say we go for the hatrick. Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran. It will help the approval numbers and plus I bet it will be a record. I’m sure that no other President has conquered three countries in a row. Clinton couldn’t even get one. Somalia! He couldn’t even conquer Somalia! Yugoslavia. Fucked that up too. He missed twice in a row.
Bush is two for two.
Owned. Fucking owned. Republicans rule. You guys can’t conquer shit.
