Thank you for a mostly respectful reply. I thought the Straight Dope was a cite for intelligent conversation, but hoo boy, do some people get their panties in a bunch on this particular topic. To question the “official narrative” does not make one a conspiracy theorist, no matter how much some of you think it does. CPs I’ve seen for 9/11 don’t make a lot of sense: when would people have had time to plant explosives for a controlled demolition, for example? And why? We know there were 19 hijackers, all from Saudi Arabia (not sure why the US didn’t attack that country instead of Iraq), and we know that this was the first time an attack like this was carried out on US soil. This is not in dispute. It was a horrible tragedy.
What I find bizarre for such an otherwise intelligent forum is the lack of open-mindedness on this particular topic. A person can’t even ask questions, for fuck’s sake. That is not the sign of a healthy forum, and telling me what I think is an insult. Clearly, you don’t know me. People, you can do better.
We did do better. For the first five years. The next five years were exhausting and annoying. The five years after that were just infuriating. And now it’s not worth anyone’s time to argue with someone who’s STILL stuck on the same old bullshit that’s been debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked and debunked.
It would be a lot easier to digest your wise answers if they weren’t presented in such a harsh, assoholic tone. I have not heard a number of ideas before and I would like to investigate them further. But jeez Louise, you people have got to stop coming across as so PREACHY. I have lost a lot of respect for some people I used to look up to.
If you threw a tank out of the sky at a concrete building, it would certainly penetrate much deeper into the building than a plane would, and rather than a debris field you might have a solid hunk of metal, but I’m not sure how tank shaped that hunk of metal would actually be. Tanks are tough, but they also have a very high terminal velocity.
Actually it quite literally does, since in order for the official narrative to be wrong you’d need to come up with an explanation (a theory if you will) that includes thousands of people keeping the truth suppressed (a conspiracy).
If I may offer a slightly more thoughtful, *post-*coffee response…
In High School English Composition class, we had a book report to do. The list of books on which we could not report was provided to us – most of the classics, long ago done to death.
On that list was “Catcher In The Rye.”
Despite clearly understanding the assignment and its constraints, I decided to write about Catcher, intending to prove that its protagonist, Holden Caulfield, was gay.
My paper received a grade of “F.”
When I spoke to the teacher, she made it clear that I hadn’t followed the instructions for the assignment, and that nobody was to write about books that had “utterly been done to death.”
“But has anybody ever tried to prove the thesis that I set out to prove?”
No. Nobody had.
It didn’t matter.
@Biffster ? You chose a topic from a list of Done To Death topics on the SDMB, and then set about not even bringing anything novel to the discussion.
Why do you expect a warm welcome, given both of those things are true?
No you don’t. You can say,”well it was unusual the way WTC7 collapsed like that” or “odd that there was no plane wreckage in either Shanksville or the Pentagon” without having to come up with some outlandish explanation involving conspiracies. If you can’t handle any questions at all, and I’m sorry, but I was not part of the conversation 23 FUCKING YEARS AGO, then maybe you’re not as open-minded as you think you are.
It is literally impossible to explain away the thousands of people who watched these events, picked up debris, tagged dead bodies, without it being a conspiracy. By definition.
Have zero idea how you can live in a world where random EMT’s, firemen, first responders, etc, did not notice they were not working a plane crash and remain sane.
I would expect people to move on if they don’t like the topic. I don’t expect them to turn into assholes. And I think your Catcher hypothesis sounds interesting, though I’ve never read it.
