It’s great how the posts have branched out. I was simply wondering if another word ending in “-emen” had an even more divergent pronunciation from those three.

But in the spirit of how this is going:

Beeman (chewing gum)
Cement
Demon
Eamon (de Velara)
Feminine
G-Men
Hemen (one of the three in the OP)
I’m an old cowhand
Jiminy
Keyman (no idea)
Lemon
Meeman (there’s a Meeman-Shelby Park in Memphis or close by there)
Neiman (Leroy or Marcus)

you finish the list if you like…

the Tough Cough as they Plough Through Dough.

5 words which ought to rhyme, but the “ough” portion is pronounced differently in each.

Uff, off, ow, ooh, oh

I can see why people have trouble learning english.

If the plural of mouse is mice, and the plural of louse is lice, what is the plural of house?

I guess everybody knows what GHOTI spells, right?

I’ll have to ask Ernie, my pet know-it-all gold-ghoti :).

(whoops, Ernie’s gone belly up in his bowl!)

“moped” and “coax” are interesting in that they are different words, with different etymologies, pronounced differently, that are different parts of speech. (Although isn’t it really “co-ax”?) I wonder how many other such pairs there are.

Here is a poem about pronunciation.
