Yep, I spend too much time here.

So I was at work today (Copy desk at a small, midwestern newspaper) and the city editors got together for a conclave in the main conference room. A little while later, my boss asked me to go ask John, the cops-n-courts editor, about one of the details in a story.

“Can’t,” says Junie. “All the mods are locked in the conference room.”

Boss gives blank stare until I mumblingly correct myself. “Uhhh, that’s editors. Yeah, the editors are all in the conference room.”

Note to self: cut back on board usage at work.

or just keep using the term “mods” in reference to the editors at work and soon everyone will start to use it… or you’ll get fired…either way

I can do you one better… half of my conversations with friends are retellings of the threads on the SDMB. They were really amused by my description of the TMI thread…

Well I am rarely here. In fact I am not here now, you only think you are seeing this post.

hey, i have a ESDMB (Extension of the Straight Dope Message Boards) going on at my desk. i’m the sole mod, and my Moderaser[sup]TM[/sup] strikes fear in the dummies who post stupid things like “Hi Cougarfang” and such. i’m the Cecil Adams of my very own ESDMB, eradicating ignorance. and as some of my friends are dopers too, we use typical doperslang and vB code.

ha. beat that.

sticks around to see other people’s posts
gets kicked off thread anyway
Yooooowwwwwwwww!

My GOD, I need to get to bed. I’m seeing things.

I knew I should have had that second cup of coffee! I’m hallucinating Ayesha posts!

SPOOFE, half of my sentences begin with either “There’s this guy on the boards who…” or “There was a thread about this on the boards about…” My family kind of accepts the Dopers as my primary source of information at this point, and my friends and co-workers have just given up on me.

Must run. The newsmods (I’ve decided I like that better than “editors.”) think I ought to be reading copy or something.

I have a similar problem. I’ve been spelling spoof incorrectly. I spelled it spoofe recently. I even proofed it. In my mind, that was the correct way to spell the word. Does that count as too much dope?

Never mind the fact that people say “Where are you going?” and my response is sometimes “Home for some dopin”. Out of context it might look like I have a drug problem. Silly fools. I have a DRINKING problem.
