I have been put in charge of procuring for my folks a replacement for their current computer, a Performa 6116 or some such thing (a PowerMac 6100 variant at any rate) with a G3/210 and 136 MB of RAM.
I’m going with the iMac Mini Core Duo, basically stock but crammed with all the RAM she’ll hold. (The better to run Parallels for my totally windows-centric sister when she’s down there, and to run SheepShaver or Basilisk II for my Dad’s 68K-vintage really-Classic apps like MacDraw).
I’m unsure about what to do about the display. Their current screen is, so help me, a 640 x 480 original Apple 13" or thereabouts they bought with their IIci in the late 80s.
I’m thinking 19" TFT but I don’t want to risk actual objects and text being smaller than they are, in true DPI terms, than they are on the 640 x 480. Folks the age of my parents aren’t font of reading fine text or making sense of small objects, and I can just see them saying “We like the old one better”!
