I only heard it a couple of times about 10 years ago, a mellow woman singing something like “I got up, made myself some coffee da da da da” to the tune of I Dream of Jeanie. Any one have a clue? Its obvious I don’t.
thanks

Tom’s Diner - Suzanne Vega
Tom’s Diner isn’t to the tune of I dream of Jeannie…
It does have a lot of do do dooo DO dodo DO do.
I Dream is DO DO do do do do do DO DO do do do do do.
yes. i know this makes no sense.
Maybe he was referring to the TV show: Baaa-dit bum-bum-bidah-dit, Baaa-dit bum-bum-bidah-dit,
Baaa-dit bum-bum-bidah-dit-dum.
Further confounding things is that Nickelodeon had a commercial for “Nick at Night” several years ago which was a spoof of “Tom’s Diner.”
It mimicked Suzanne Vega’s voice but used the I Dream of Jeannie beat. The only verse I remember for sure was the final line of the stanza (ex: “her hair has gotten wet”) which was “But it’s better than Bewitched…”
I’m not familiar with “I Dream of Jeannie,” so I have to ask, was it a country song?
It’s a US TV show from the 60’s. IMDb page.
The theme song was rather infectious. Here’s the first few seconds in WAV format. (copyright safe).
And just to confuse things more, the OP may instead be referring to “I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair”, which is a very very old song.
However, the Fresh Prince sampled “I Dream of Jeannie” in his immortal classic “Girls Ain’t Nothin’ But Trouble” from the late '80s.
So remember my rhyme…remember my rhyme and stay the hell away!
I’ll bet this is what the OP is referring to. If it’s the same song I’m thinking of, I heard it on Dr. Demento about ten years ago.
According to this site , Suzanne Vega herself approved an album composed entirely of Tom’s Diner remakes and spoofs. She specifically mentions “Jeannie’s Diner” and there is an album track list which includes it as well.
It’s listed on Amazon.com: Tom’s Album
