Yes, Facebook is evil.

Yes, the 8.0.1 is what I have now and “About Firefox” claims I am up to date. Conversely I am playing my game on Safari 5.0.3 which is how old? But that’s where the game works!

First of all, Firefox 9.0 is out.

And I figured out why I’ve had it for a while. On that machine, I signed up to beta test Firefox a couple of years ago. Apparently, it’s still feeding me beta versions on that computer, but I hadn’t noticed. So that Mac is always one ahead of my other computers, including the Windows machine at work I’m typing this on.

This thread reminded me to check if Firefox 9.0 was still in beta stage. Evidently, 10.0 is now in beta stage. So there you go. I learned something today.

It must have just come out, since I updated Firefox (I think) last week and got 8.0.1

The article is dated December 21.

I looked upthread and it appears I updated before 12/19, so I must have just missed 9.0

Since you have them blocked in NoScript, and if they aren’t using a different domain for their scripts, you should be okay. Otherwise, yes, they would be tracking you on every site you visit that has a Facebook like button or that uses that hideous Facebook comment system. In fact, they would be tracking you even if you didn’t have an account and would use that information after you made one. They are still selling that information, regardless.

Facebook is for 13-year-old girls and 50-year-old guys who prey on those 13-year-old girls.

Also, Firefox is currently about as good as IE, though both are much better than Safari. Upgrade to something better like Opera, or if you like having no options and having all of your browsing habits sent back to Google, try Chrome.

You are way behind the times. With hundreds of millions of people on Facebook, it’s one of the largest job-search aids in the world (more people credited Facebook with helping them to get a job last year than LinkedIn). Of my 600+ Facebook friends, only a handful are under 20 (mostly relatives), and the majority are business-related connections. Many are over 60.

A cookie (I hope).

Facebook - never had it, never will. (curmudgeon /OFF)

Oddly enough I got a Facebook update in email a minute ago, a relative had posted something or other. But when I went to log in, Facebook told me my computer was infected with malware, and suggested some links to “clean” it up with.

One of the links offers the same virus protection I use 24/7. :smack:

So now Facebook has me on Limited usage, it says I can’t post anything for a certain amount of time. Like I care.

Anyone else ever run into this?

You got an email that was purportedly from Facebook, clicked the link in the email to log in, and then got a bunch of malware warnings? I think you were phished.

The link on the Go To Facebook button graphic is www.facebook.com though. It didn’t take me anywhere strange.

nm

Huh. Well, searching “limited usage Facebook” turns up absolutely nothing. There’s a “limited profile” but that’s a privacy setting that you select yourself, not something that Facebook does as a security thing. I still suspect malware of some sort in your case.

If you go to the help section here, and click on “I received a warning message but I think it’s a scam”, you get an error message. lol

This person seems to be having the same issue I am.

OK, I searched on the exact error message (FYI for future reference, if you get an error message that you don’t understand, it often helps to search for the exact message, in quotation marks) and got some results. People seem to think that deleting your browser history and cookies will solve the problem. For what that’s worth, since you purport not to care anyway.
