Yes, I'm getting another Dog, No I don't value your Input

I have had 2 dogs for most of my adult life. One died recently, she was about 17, Kelpie cross rottweiler. She was a top dog.

The other bloke is coping but he’s always had company. Since I go to my mums house up in the country for Christmas, I’m waiting till after that to get another one. I know I’ll cop a lecture about why I don’t need another dog, to which I’ll listen; nod and say “Yes Mum” a lot and then do exactly what I want, which she knows anyway but we have to go through the dance. FFS I’m 48 and have adult kids.

I’ll be careful in selecting a new one, the other one is around 12 (German Shepherd dad, other dog was his mum) and has never been good with other dogs except his mum so I’ll need to select one with patience that accepts being second banana quickly and won’t fight with him.

I’m leaning toward a black lab.

Well, then, that’s probably why they feel they have the right to offer it, as you apparently like it most of the time. They’ve just made a mistake this time.

If their advice is as good as you say, then hopefully they won’t get all upset. Because, if they were giving good advice, they’d be telling you not to get upset in a similar situation.

In other words, don’t count your angry birds before they hatch.

hey, that was funny!
congrats on Dogger #2 - I think people should have as many pets as they can afford and take good care of and dogs usually like being with other dogs.

I have three and watching them interact has been one of the best parts of living with them.

I think you’re making two dogs very happy. Congratulations!

Yeah, unless they are giving this advice because of something y9ou haven’t told us, like you’re departing on a 5-year mission to Mars or something, you should feel free to disregard their kibbitzing.

Thank you for rescuing!

Also, please consider the Two Week Shutdown to help your dog integrate into a new home.
