Yesterday (11/2/01) I had a GREAT TIME!!

And fairly cheaply, too, I might add.

Since I work for the State, I get leave time measured out in hours earned per pay period. And [sub]since the pay is fairly low[/sub] we get to take leave more or less when we want/need it.

Soooo… I took an hour of leave Friday afternoon, getting me out an hour early.

Went down to Vanderbuilt University’s general area, & window shopped where the rich kiddies go to max out Daddy’s credit card.

Then a cheap dinner, mostly ice cream.

Then I took in a film at the Belcourt Theatre, Nashville’s historic arthouse theatre.

The Belcourt was built in the early 1900’s as a silent film house. During the Depression, it served as Nashville’s Children’s Theatre. A movie house during the 60’s, it became an arthouse in the 80’s or 90’s, I forget.

Cool old fashioned projector in the lobby. Looke like a prop left over from Flash Gordon Conquers The Martians.

The film I saw was Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. A full-lenght anime feature, it’s one of the few sequels as good as the original. In some ways better. The quality of the backgrounds reminded me of Disney’s better stuff.

Hardly cost anything at all.

Gotta do this again. Now that I’ve found a cheap place to park, that’s closer to the theatre, it will be even better!

Hey Bosda Di’Chi of Tricor I live like 20 min. from you. cool.
Glad to hear somebody had a good day yestarday. I sure didn’t. Nashville is not a bad place to hang out. Personaly I like to hit The great escape and the best place to eat IMHO is SanAntonio taco co. on commerce st.

I went to The Great Escape yesterday.

But a better place to eat than a taco joint is Vandyland or The Sherlock Holmes Pub.

And there are things to do, but in Nashville, you gotta hunt for 'em.

Pick up a copy of The Nashville Scene. It’s a free, local alternative paper whose only major flaw is not carrying The Straight Dope. Their events & movie listings are very helpful.

Avoid The Tennessean. Our daily is ridiculed nationally as a “no-news newspaper”. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, you are right The Tennessean does suck pretty hard. The daily News Journal aint bad though. I live in a small town just south of M’boro and our town paper reads like a highschool news letter.
I lived in Antioch for a couple of years and I had a harder time finding stuff to do then, more so then I do now.but dont it always work out that way?:stuck_out_tongue:
