Yet another Doper word game...

The object of THIS word game, instead of defining made up words, or linking user-names, is to go from one word to another of equal length in as few moves as possible changing only one letter at a time, no adding or subtracting of letters. After one person solves a puzzle, they suggest transition words for the next person. And obviously you have to use REAL words. Hint: Names are good starting or ending words to use, although proper nouns are not allowed in between starting and finishing words.

Task One
Go from “James” to “Smart”
James
Tames
Tares
Pares
Parks
Perks
Perms
Terms
Teams
Tears
Sears
Stars
Start
Smart

Understand?

Task Two
“Rob” to “Ego”

Also make sure the word chains are possible. This example may seem hard, but I was able to complete it.

Have fun, and go to it.

Ow - this makes my head hurt.

Rob
rib
rim
aim
alm
ale
age
ago
Ego

Now my brain hurts, too. And I am too lazy to do the coding to show which letter I changed or think of a next one.

As my math prof, Dr. Ditzian, would demonstrate, it’s not difficult!!
Just so:
Rob–>Ego
Rob
Roo
Rio
Rig
Sig
.
.
.
A few simple calculations
.
.
.
Egg
Ego
And Voila! You have the correct answer.

[sub]Now that my head has exploded trying this, I shall clean my brains out of my keyboard and go to bed. Have fun with this![/sub]

rob
rot
rat
eat
ear
err
erg
egg
ego

The object is for the person who answers the task to suggest a new task. But here’s how I did it (minus fancy coding because I’m just too damn tired):

Rob
Rib
Rid
Aid
Add
Ado
Ago
Ego

But it is good to see people actually THINKING about this stuff…I guess I just do this way to much though because I find this stuff entertaining, not brain-exploding.

Ok, now, after you solve this transition, suggest one of your own…please.

Go from “Jess” to “Love”

That one is ass-easy, so no brain exploding there…

Jess-Love

Jess
Mess
Mass
Mast
Must
Lust
Lost
Lose
Love

DAMNIT PEOPLE! Why can’t you just say what the next transition is supposed to be?!?!

Anyway, Jess to Love:

Jess
Less
Loss
Lose
Love

NEXT TRANSITION (stop forgetting this VITAL part of the thread):
“Jake” to “Glee”

jess
less
loss
lose
love

And, for another easy one:

easy -> hard

Dave to bike. It can be done.

Dave
Dive
Dike
Bike

Easy
East
Last
Mast
Mart
Mare
Hare
Hard

(That’s probably excessively circuitous, please excuse that)

“Dani” to “Slut”

And “Jake” to “Glee” still, sorry bout that! In fact, do that…not “Dani” to “Slut”. We can do that one later.

Jake -> Glee:

Jake
make
male
malt
melt
meat
seat
slat
slut
glut
glue
glee

Dani -> Slut

Dani
Dane
mane
male
malt
melt
meat
seat
slat
slut

Next: Word -> Game

That one is hard! This is the best I could do:

jake
bake
bike
bide
aide
aids
adds
ades
ales
alee
glee

Not so sure if ‘ades’ counts … as in lemonades and orange-ades, I always considered ‘ade’ or ‘ades’ to be its own
word. If not, then … from ‘aids’…

ails
alls
ales
alee
glee

nods

And um … the reason very few people are posting other ones, I imagine, is because they’re hard to make certain they can work?

How about … bird → walk? Really easy but it’s the only one I can think of that I know for certain will work  I’d hate to put one up that is unsolveable!

Whoops! Sorry Darwin, didn’t see your post

Your answer is way better though. No dodgy words

word
ward
hard
hare
dare
dame
game

There!

Jake
Make
Mare
Hare
Hard
Lard
Lark
Park
Perk
Peek
Plea
Flea
Flee
Glee

I’ll do Caiata’s “bird to walk”.

bird
bard
bald
balk
walk

Mine is pretty easy, too.
skin --> cast

I found it more difficult than bird -> walk

skin
spin
spun
spur
sour
pour
pout
lout
lost
last
cast

How about star -> love? I have no idea if this one is possible, I’m just picking words now. runs off to see if she can do it herself

star
soar
soak
sock
lock
lick
lice
live
love

Dark into zone, 6 steps inclusive.

Almost all words combos are possible

Dark
Bark
Bare
Bane
Bone
Zone

Mike --> Cool
