Water --> Wine
Water
waver
waves
wave
wive
Wine
How about Body --> Bread?
[sub]I’ll take transubstantiation for $200, Alex[/sub]

On review that bit is redundant. I mean, it’s hardly a miracle if it takes six steps.
Water -> Wine redux
water
wager
wage
wane
wine
Avoids that dodgy “wive” (wive? Might have been popular back in the 1800s…)
Oh, I also noticed that you can replace:
bones
bores
With “cones” in my Dodgy -> Words solution:
tones
cones
cores
cords
words
Gets there one step faster, of course.
And thanks, ShibbOleth
Took me about 5 minutes or so to come up with that.
I guess “longe” was probably the -only- combination of letters I didn’t run through dictionary.com trying to solve that c.f. of a puzzle
Anywhoo! Body -> Bread!
body
bode
bore
pore
port
pert
peat
teat
treat
tread
bread
And … hrm … Colt → Horse?
Nice one Darwin’s Finch! I spent ages trying to figure that one out, thought I’d got it last night but no. Of course I think it’s only right to blame moronmountain for that as I was being lazy and just trying to get from barge to forge
Colt > Horse
colt
cold
cord
core
wore
worse
horse
Hmmm…Seed > Plant ?
seed -> plant…
seed
send
sent
pent
pant
plant
How about: ** lion -> pride ** (untested)
[sub]btw, I’ve assumed that extra/redundant letters can be added/removed from anywhere in the word, a la previous couple of posts[/sub]
I did too, but now I’m wondering if I misunderstood ShibbOleth and I’m meant to be putting my letter in at the end or beginning of the word not the thread :o
Thanks there, Nortia…because I somehow FORCED you to go my obviously wrong route. And your laziness is also my fault, and for that I am truly sorry. I also applaud Darwin, for they are obviously a better word chain solver than I. I saw longe…but never saw the longs, tongs, tones transition…stupid stupid stupid.
Oh yeah…and I’m sticking with Shibb’s only at the beginning or end of the word rule.
Lion -> Pride
lion
lien
lies
lids
rids
ride
pride
I went the long way at first on that one…around 12 words…then realized I could jump right from rids to lids…::sighs::
Glass -> Can (Obviously you need to take out two letters, and like you should have been doing from when Shibb first allowed it, only add or subtract from the front of back of the word).
moronmountain I was hoping that my
at the end of my sentence would indicate that I wasn’t actually blaming you and that I was just messing, obviously not.
Glass > Can
glass
lass
cass
cans
can
This is eerie… I had Lion and Pride in mind when I first posited the shifting from 4 to 5 letter words. Get out of my head, Xerxes!
[sub]I am not very good at coming up with difficult but doable ones, I think, but here goes a few. Someone else please add a couple as well[/sub]
To continue a trend…
Five --> Six (should be easy?)
Sour --> Sweet
Noon --> Night
Dull --> Shine
Day --> Light (Remember to add at the ends, only 1 letter at a time)
and back to the original style…
Four --> Five (tres facile, no?)
**Wet --> Dry **
**Tired --> Happy **
None of these are tested, but they all seem possible.
Let me blast through three of these. I’m glad someone finally solved dodgy -> words. (I think I deserve some credit for suggesting it…)
Noon
toon
town
tows
sows
saws
sags
sigs
sigh
sight
Night
Now I feel like I accomplished something.
And OUCH moronmountain!! You took something I said and turned it into an insult! I’m nursing an emotional black eye here…seriously…I am…
Wet
Wey
Wry
Dry
Dull > Shine
dull
doll
dole
done
hone
shone
shine
Day > Light
day
lay
lag
sag
sig
sigh
sight
light
Four -> Five
Four
Foul
Fool
Food
Fold
Told
Tole
Tile
File
Five
game -> over
Okay… cough… that didn’t mean STOP… This thread is officially UNkilled, so somebody solve game -> over! (As per moronmountains’s request).
