Yet another Niven/Ringworld Thread

Okay, so I just finished Ringworld and Ringworld Engineers. I know this topic has been brought up before, but I fear risking the Wrath of the Hamsters by searching for it.

What should I read next? I wouldn’t mind reading more about the Man-Kzin Wars, but if the Niven gurus on the board think there are more likely books to pursue, I’m not going to argue…

Read his earlier novels and short stories – Protector, Tales from Known Space, Neutron Star. Don’t continue with Ringworld; you’ll only be disappointed.

Read The Ringworld Throne, Niven’s last Ringworld book.

Although I think the Man-Kzin Wars books are better than TRT. Plus a new one’s just come out.

Ah, thanks. Knew you guys could help. Think I might dig up either Protector or some of the MK novels then…

I liked Ringworld very much. And, rare among Niven fans, I liked Ringworld Engineers even better.

But I’ve seldom come as close to hurling a book across a room as I did when I read The Ringworld Throne. It’s one of the worst novels I’ve ever managed to finish reading. I strongly recommend you do not attempt it.

Neutron Star is fantastic reading. And there is a book that has all of the Beowolf Schafer stories together.

I guess I’m alone but I like Throne. My favorite related work is Protector. I get a little misty every time I hit the last page, even knowin he was compelled.

But you should just read EVERYTHIN by Niven. When I find an author I like I get everything they have published and try to read it all in chronological order (this had required doubling back). Must be the OCD but I have a pretty good library of fiction.
