Yet another pizza toppings post

Needs to rip your face off and run away real fast?

Well, I laughed my self into fits. Thx Mr. Gato-anchovy-man

And a Merry Christmas to you, Granny Hawkins!

Casey’s convenience stores offer very good custom topping pizzas.

It was quite a surprise. I happened to fill-up with gas and it was a bit late to cook dinner. I left about 12 to 15 min later with a piping hot pizza.

We switched from Little Caesars to Casey’s. Buy at least 2 to 3 a month.

Sure, we have a couple local pizza places that are better. We dine-in there. But, for chain restaurants I’ll grab a Casey’s and take home every time.

Anyone like breakfast pizza? Standard on menu at Casey’s
Sausage Breakfast Pizza that starts with cheese sauce, or sausage gravy, and is topped with scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

I order
Bacon Breakfast Pizza that starts with cheese sauce, or sausage gravy, and is topped with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Outside the US, you can get some unexpected pizza toppings - Pizza Hut in Jakarta used to give out banana pizzas for free if your order was above a certain amount. In various Asian locations I’ve had corn, BBQ sauce, tofu, shrimp, chicken, and other toppings on my pizza, for better or worse.

But the most remarkable topping, in my book, was from a pizza place in Harvard Square back in the early 1980s. You could get “extra olive oil” on your pizza for a small charge. At the time it sounded gross, and even now - with a much more sophisticated palate that could appreciate a really fruity, high quality olive oil - I’m still not totally convinced it was a good idea. But some people must have thought so.

I actually prefer more subtle toppings that enhance the pizza rather than dominate it. My go-to delivery combo is feta cheese, mushrooms and onions - a balance of salty, sweet and umami.

About as long as it takes to eat a bierock handpie

I add a nice olive oil drizzle to pizzas at home! Well, I think I know what dinner is going to be tonight…

In Europe, I’ve seen corn kernels on various pizzas with names like “American” or “Mexican.” The Dr. Oetker frozen pizza brand “Big Americans” series has corn on it, plus they also have a tuna melt pizza in the same line.

One supermarket here sold a cheese and onion pizza for a while, and it was delicious. But no one else ever has so I make my own now.

I should say their “supreme” pizza in this line has corn, and maybe another flavor, but that’s the one I remember.

I’m definitely in the caramelized onion camp for pizza toppings. Have had that with the eggplant, which was tasty, but the eggplant/hamburger combo is even better.

How was the :eggplant:prepared first?

That and hamburger are a natural pairing it’d have to be great on a pizza

By hamburger, you guys mean ground beef, right? Not an actual hamburger on a pizza.

Yes ground round or chuck,
Some cooks home grind ribeye steak to hamburger.

I’ve liked a taco style pizza with meat, cheese raw lettuce onion and tomato. No chips though.

I love black olives in almost any application. I can remember as a kid that my cousins in Ohio had only seen green olives. They’d never eaten (or seen) a black olive. This would have been in the early 60s.

I only like pepperoni if it’s really crisp. Otherwise, it’s too greasy for me.

Eggplant is awesome if it’s prepared properly. It needs to be cooked through with no rawness at all. I can still remember the side vegetables I had with a chicken piccata years ago, and one bite of the eggplant (that had been grilled in olive oil) was pure ambrosia.

I used to love getting a slice of plain cheese at Costco and then adding the onions intended for the hot dogs onto the pizza.

I’ve come to find I like pickels on pizza when paired with the right other toppings like a reuben pizza or a hamburger pizza.

My go-to with leftover New Year’s Day traditional fare. Get pizza shell or Boboli at store. Cover with mashed potatoes as you would sauce. Then sauerkraut and diced or sliced kielbasa, top with shredded mozzarella and bake. Awesome!

The eggplant was sliced thin, breaded, and cooked – on the griddle, no doubt – before arriving on the pizza. It appeared that the hamburger was put on first, after the tomato sauce and cheese, then the eggplant slices were placed over it.

@Alessan, yes, ground beef.

@carrps I just talked to my sister today and she’s another fan of black olives on pizza.

Inspired by this thread, tonight I made a pizza.

I used anchovies.

That won’t happen again. It just tastes like someone rubbed my pizza with a fish. I keep hearing anchovies should add a nice umami kick, but it just adds fish. It isn’t INEDIBLE, by any means, I’d have just been happier without the fish…
