Its pretty hard enough to be a conservative on this board. Trying to be a libertarian puts you in the same category of credibility as a flat earther but you have managed to achieve credibility. Elvis is just too used to having the facts on his side and an avalanche of backslapping liberals and doesn’t know what to do when the facts are against him (and most of the liberals have realized that this is not where they hold the high ground).
That seems to be your response to being wrong about things. Its a very mature attitude.
The one thing I like about this board is that the sort of shit that flies on the yahoo message boards simply doesn’t fly here.
Ii would settle for him telling us what was so inaccurate about my original post in reply to his musings. Either that, or manning up for once and admitting he was wrong.
Maybe he doesn’t realize that it"s OK to admit a mistake. People actually think better of you, generally.
All it takes is an excuse for them yell “Gungrabbers! Freeeee-dom!” I’m simply telling them that we already know that’s what’s coming, that that’s all they have anyway, that they’re being disdained because of it, and that’s what’s pissing them off.
And for our local common scold John, all it takes is something to validate his self-image as morally superior to us grubby, compromised *participants *(yecch!).
First off, taggants are not a Big Hairy Ass Deal. In almost all cases where somebody shot somebody, we pretty much know who shot who. Or, failing that, we can pretty much always find out well short of needing to track taggants to prove it. On the other hand, taggants are likely to be harmless, if somewhat gormless.
Further and further, in the prevailing political climate, advancing a taggant agenda is hopeless, since even the mildest and most reasonable of gun control regulation has been met and will be met with hysterical opposition because freedom. If the tepid and mild regulation agenda recently offered cannot pass even with solid majority support, how can any progress be made on “taggants” when ninety percent of the people have no idea what a “taggant” is? Probably more.
If these other issues are resolved, perhaps someday we can drill down to “taggants”, and then we can hear about how its all part of Obama’s agenda to impose Sharia law.
Does the NRA oppose “taggants”? Most likely. But hating the NRA for that is like hating Hitler because he was a piss-poor water colorist.
Know what? This thread isn’t really about taggants. It’s about seeing just how strong the reflex reactions are among the gunstroking crowd. It’s about seeing just how small an advance might be toward reducing murders, or catching murderers, before they hear the bell ringing and start yapping.
And it’s been illustrative - the answer is “anything at all”. There is no limit at all to their willingness to help murderers go free as long as they use anything even remotely and trivially associatable with their gun fetish. No limit whatsoever - it’s a blank spot on their moral map, the reflex reaction overcomes any such thought process they might otherwise be capable of. If you’re not saddened by that you should be.
