If anyone here can halt the painful burrowing motions that the ignorance of this song creates, I’d be most thankful.
It seems to be a mid-late 1970s tune, if I judge correctly by the synthesiser and the snare drum used. The only lyrics I remember (sung by a low tenor/high baritone voice) of this rather obscure tune (I think) are: I said what? She (or is it I?) said who-who-who-who-who. The note letters of these lyrics are as follows:
I said what?
A# A# F(gliss)A#[sup]8va[/sup]
She (or *I*?) said who-who-who-who-who
A# A# D D# F D A#
The notes then, if I remember, are used in a sawtooth synthesiser riff that I think is part of the chorus (the basic notes I remember follow):
A# A# A# A#A#A# G (repeat twice)
A#[sup]8va[/sup] G F D# D C
The key seems to be in A#, the tempo is around 102 bpm. Does anyone know? Thanks.
INSIPID!?
That song my friend is the GREATEST one hit wonder of all time.
And I’ll not have you insult it on this message board.
“May the fleas from a thousand camels invade your armpits”.
Nah. Come On Eileen (Dexy’s Midnight Runners) and Video Killed the Radio Star (The Buggles) are tied for the spot.
Of course, if you want to get nitpicky, All Along the Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix) was the greatest one hit wonder of all time. But anyone who thinks of Jimi Hendrix as a one hit wonder is a complete loser.
Interestingly, listeners to the Rollye James show recently voted Midnight at the Oasis “the worst song of all time”. (Also, Ms. Muldaur was actually a “two-hit wonder”, as “I’m A Women” reached #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.)
