Yet another suggestion for a way to get money to the board

I haven’t seen many threads lately discussing ways to fund the board. Has this subject been officially dropped, or can we still discuss it?

Anyway, I’ve been spending some time over at www.televisionwithoutpity.com lately. AFAIK, their board runs on the revenues that it earns. One of the ways that it earns revenue is by selling outrageously overpriced donation stickers (their term, not mine). As soon as I get a job, I’m definitely buying one. Could we do something similar here?

I would like to buy something to support the board, but the last things I need are another coffee mug and another t-shirt. And besides, I’d rather have more of my money go towards running the board than paying for the purchase and shipping of a mug. If we were buying a sticker, then we’d be avoiding the complications of “memberships” and “donations.”

And what is going on with the “pay to play” idea, anyway?

We have something in mind along the lines you describe, but are waiting for a new version of the MB software to be released from beta before implementing it. The new version provides an automated money-collecting process. Don’t worry, reading and posting will still be free. It’ll be a few months (at least) before anything happens, and exactly how it’ll work depends on the software, which as yet we haven’t seen. We’ll provide full details when we know them ourselves.

As you can see from the difference between the query and response date, tho’ the wheels turn, they do so larghetto. Yikes!

FWIW, a few of us have collaboratively come up with a scheme that fits in with the Chicago Reader’s business operations whereby the TM can contribute in a way that they can legitimately accept – even before the software upgrade Ed Z speaks of. We’ve submitted it, through Lynn, for their OK, and I hadn’t planned to say anything public until after I got their opinions. But given that the topic has raised its head again, I’ll mention that the idea is in the works.

Hot damn! We’re finally gonna make some money!

Will our cut of the profits be determined by post-count percentages??
:eek:
::heads for MPSIMS::

Grim

Profits? Hah! This MB has as much chance of turning a profit as Springtime for Hitler. :smiley:

I liked the board so much I bought the parent!
