Yet another Windows 2000 question.

Here’s the buzz: If I use the Windows+“F” command to open a search window, and I type a name of a file or folder in the search window (on the left), the side on the right fills up with folders that have that word in their title. So far, so normal.

However, despite deleting cookies, temp files, cache files, history files, and everything else I can think of, when I type in this box, it still drops-down with suggestions from previous searches! Is there anyway to stop this really annoying behaviour ?

Just to clarify, I’m not doing an Internet search, as there is a button to clear previous searches on that screen. It’s jist for files and folders.

Thanks.

There might be an easier way, but you could use RegEdit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars, find a key in there called FilesNamedMRU and delete the entries in there.

(not sure about that thread title in GQ, btw [/junior mod] )

Contrary to popular belief, “Windows+f” does not mean “f* with Windows”

Please avoid f*'ing with Windows 2000. So many people f*'ed with Win95 and Win98 that they are almost completely f*'ed up.

The TweakUI power toy has an option to clear the Find Files History on request or at each logon.

If you don’t have TweakUI, you can get it from microsoft.com. I don’t remember if there ever was a specific Windows 2000 version of it. I couldn’t find it on my last install and have been running the XP version of it just fine.

I should’ve mentioned that it’s under the Paranoia tab.

Achilles, please do not use expletives in thread titles in GQ.
