Yet Still Another Dixie Chicks Thread

So even Faux News concedes that the "sold out crowd cheered"the Dixie Chicks Thursday night in Greenville SC.

Singer Natalie Maines gave the crowd a chance to boo DC, but the crowd erupted in cheers instead.

It would appear that Maines’ earlier comments were not as harmful to DC as many hoped or expected.

I’m not a fan, but you gotta admire someone who stands up and says something along the lines of “You wanna boo us? Go ahead! Here’s your chance!” I thought it was a cool move.

I’ve heard this before on a recording of a performance by Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions (launching pad for the Warlocks/Grateful Dead). One of the Champions (Jerry?) says (more eloquently than this paraphrase):

“For those of us who may not like us, we’re going to have a ‘boo break’. Anyone who doesn’t like us, you may ‘boo’ us right now.”

sounds of a few boos/jeers/hisses, most probably in jest

“Ah, alright…few good hisses in there…”
I wouldn’t expect much of a ‘boo-ing’ from a concert for which a ticket cost upwards of – what is it, $40US or something? – that much money. It would be something of a waste of money to attend a concert just to show disapproval…kind of like ‘screwing for virginity’ as the saying goes. Mind, that’s not to say no ‘boo-ing’ will happen; I would think it’s still a tad early to tell. And, there were a few protesters, nonetheless.

I honestly don’t care what the Dixie Chicks think. I used to like them, but they have gotten old, IMHO.

Why would someone buy a ticket to their show just to boo 'em?

It was only a matter of time before that clever Simpsons quote would turn up. Rule!

Indeed, it was a pretty smart move (not a bold or daring move, since there wouldn’t have been many boo-ers in the audience, as was pointed out). I don’t care what they said, either. Quite frankly, here in Europe, we only know them because of that remark.

My understanding is that the DC shows were nearly sold out before Maines made her remark about Bush.
