In my opinion, the whos whats and whys of Yiddish are hardly important. The importance lies in the fact that there are simply no more innately descriptive words in any language than “schmattas” for a hideous outfit, or “mashugguna” for a true loon. This is what makes Yiddish the very cool language/dialect which it is.

But why are you over here all by yourself? Why don’t you come over onto the other thread with the rest of us?
