Y'know, a lotta people woulda put the stables a bit farther from The Big House...

…than just across the riding arena.

I have worked on turning stables and riding arenas into hotels and (dirt-filled) exhibition space. I’ve turned 72 stalls into, er, 72 stalls which were well-separated from The [del]Big House (er, it’s 2009 and not 1859?)[/del] Primary Residence. And I grew up in Horse Country, so I know what’s what and what’s horseshit. This is the first time I’ve put a couple-dozen stalls WELL within (it’s a small arena) smelling distance of the primary residence. (looking back and forth nd hoping nobody important to my future is reading this) Parvenus.

Good thing its in Florida. NOBODY who can afford it EVER opens their windows in Florida.

Um? A properly maintained stable should not smell badly at all. It depends where you put the manure pile, not the horses. My riding instructor’s house was physically attached to her 40-stall barn and smelled just fine. Then again her barn was clean & tidy (not obsessively so either).

On the one hand, that is true and, considering how much money this customer has, it shouldn’t be a problem. On the other hand, I grew up amongst the horsey set and really? The livestock that close to the gentry? What is this, Medieval Europe?

Why yes, I was raised to be a bit of a snob. Why do you ask?

My sister worked as a waitress at an event held by a very rich gentleman who has a residence near our hometown. There were 600 guests, it was a stunning fully catered event on marble floors with chandeliers overhead… in the middle of the gentleman’s stable.

When you’re that rich, you can afford to have the barn kept very, very clean.
