What does the acronym YMMV mean?
Thanks
Your Milage May Vary.

It’s been explained several times aroud the board, but it’s hard to find, sometimes.
Here’s the idea:
When talking about cars, sometimes an advertiser or a testing bureau will publish a number like:
14 Miles Per Gallon or
50 litres per 100 km
But they’ll add a disclaimer, because you might not use your car the way that the test is designed. So, “Test based on Ministry of Transport Guidelines 124–59. Your mileage may vary [from the published number]”
The implication: This is what I find/see/think/derive from this. You might not get the same answer.
Example:
In a discussion about removing stains from shirts:
“I use baking soda and club soda have never damaged my clothes… YMMV”
It’s sometimes used jokingly:
“I find ketchup mixed with mustard is a good treatment for stubborn chalk stains. YMMV”
Thanks. I guess car catalogues aren’t my likeliest source of worldly knowledge
In the 1970’s, it was common for TV commercials for cars to say something like “35 miles per gallon highway, 30 mpg city. Your mileage may vary”
