Isn’t it also possible that hiding from Vader until Luke pops up made him a little…loony? That the trauma of feeling Vader kill almost all of the other Jedi made him go off a little, combined with long isolation? That might explain why he’s more coherent here than later.
<sigh> Forgive me if I double post, the server ate my response. As I attempted to say…
Yoda may have been a bit loopy after a couple of decades hiding in a swamp by the time we (first) met him in ESB, but he speaks just like the Yoda we all grew up with during The Phantom Menace and other scenes in AOTC. I think he talks that way on purpose, or maybe it’s like an accent that he can drop if he really needs to.
Either Yoda is faking with the cane, or he can use the force to become fierce yet chooses only to do so when absolutely neccesary. So if he don’t call on the force he is old and cripple. I think he accepts his physical condition, but when he must battle he uses the force (coservatively).

Damn typos. Doesn’t and conservatively, like you couldn’t tell.
But Yoda wasn’t speaking “normally” when he first appeared with the calvary:
“A perimeter around the survivors create”
Easy, you mean “Around the survivors, a perimeter create!” Best line in the whole movie, in my opinion.
I agree with the “Yoda’s agility is due to his Force usage” line of thinking. He always was quite conservative with his powers, preferring instead to walk around his little swamp home rather than fly (or “hop like mad”).
Well, of course, it’s not the size that matters, but how you use it.
I think the thing was that Yoda’s lightsaber was built in proportion to his size. This seems logical. And for being only knee hight to his adversary, he really gave Dooku a run for his money.
This may be a hijack, so I’m going to start my own thread on Yoda’s Syntax. I’ve listened to it carefully recently (though I haven’t seen AOTC) and I think I have a good theory as to what is going on. I’m going to be majoring in Linguistics and so I know a little bit about stuff like this. If you’d like to hear the theory go the thread on the topic. I’ll post a link later.
P.S. Luke turns to the Dark Side?! I did not know about that!
Yoda is definitely kick-ass. And seriously, the whole thing with him just grabbing his cane back after the fight and hobbling along… it was just an element of humor. If you hadn’t noticed, there was a whole lotta cheesiness going on in the movie. EX: “This is a drag” and “I feel beside myself” c3-po
I’ve started my thread on Yoda’s syntax. Those interested can check it out over HERE

I’m betting old Yoda was on Viagra.

What did you all think of the “foreshadowing” shadows on the side of the moisture farm walls?
