I am doing my first triathlon this coming weekend. Is anyone familiar with Guntersville, Alabama? Is there a place to do yoga there? I really feel it will help with the race so I am hopeful there is a yoga studio in Guntersville.
My mother-in-law lives in Guntersville.
I tried to look one up for you in the yellow pages, but I didn’t see anything. Guntersville is a touristy/vacationy type of place (the lake is gorgeous), so I didn’t feel very hopeful to begin with. It’s a very small place.
There may be something somewhat near there, but the towns surrounding aren’t much bigger. There also may be some private individuals that teach, but like I said, I didn’t find a whole lot. Sorry I wasn’t more help.
Studio?
I thought you could do yoga anywhere you could plop your rug and have at it.
I’d check Huntsville’s directory on the web and be prepared for the drive there. Not too far unless the yoga thing is an everyday requirement.
Guntersville is just one of Alabama’s secrets. One of those places in the South that you just don’t think should be there, especially if your image of the South is either palatial mansions with live oaks and columns and lots of flowers or shacks on stilts in the middle of a cotton field or run down gas stations with lots of Dr. Pepper signs holding the boards together.
My parents were married in Guntersville in the late 30’s. The lake is beautiful and with the surrounding hills it takes on the look of the fjords in Scandinavia.
There’s even a state park on one of those hills looking out over the lake. I doubt if the park has yoga classes, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

I live in Albertville, the next town south of Guntersville. To my knowledge there isn’t a
studio that yoga is the main feature. Guntersville has a Recreation Center on the Lake. It is on the corner of Sunset Drive and Hwy 69 (Henry St.). Both local hospitals…Marshall Medical North(5 miles north of Guntersville) and Marshall Medical South(10 miles south of Guntersville) have full service gyms. Guntersville and Albertville both have privately owned gyms also.
