After all, you can always just dump it at the shelter if it doesn’t work out, right?
His responses are so unbelievably odd that I can’t believe he’s serious.
Either that or the entire family is ‘insufficiently socialised’ and profoundly lacking in empathy and compassion.
Fucking weird.
To expand:
Etc. etc.
These are not the responses of a normally adjusted person. It’s like someone taking pride in how inhuman they are. And how juvenile.
The sister getting a dog is clearly destined to be a fuck-up, but once the dog is in the household it would become a shared responsibility by dint of it being part of that household, and an entity capable of suffering and the natural desire of humans to alleviate suffering - for normal people.
That someone would predict that they will be spending time gold farming rather than (however grudgingly) deal with something that deserves compassion is almost unbelievable to me. It also speaks of a 32-year-old with the emotional development of a child of nine.
If the sister were to get pregnant via similar idiocy, would YSs refuse to help look after it because it wasn’t his decision? Or is that ‘a different issue’? Does YSs not believe - or refuses to acknowledge - that there is sentience in an animal, that a dog is a social animal, and that animal can suffer from neglect?
The point, YogSosoth, if you’re not trolling everyone with your proudly exhibited cluelessness, is that rather than attempting to mitigate your sister’s selfish behaviour, you should be doing everything in your power to prevent her from going down such a foolhardy path. You say you won’t go behind her back to your parents. So don’t: bring it up with her and your parents, publically, and say “this is a terrible idea and I oppose it for the following reasons…”
Be an man.
Just another retard who wears his social ineptitude as a badge of honour, but at least most of his ilk have the grace not to inflict it on other living creatures. HEY I’M HAPPY AS A MASTURBATING SHUT-IN WHICH DOG BREED IS MOST LIKE ME?
Jeez that was badly written. “Be an man”?
My only excuse is my neighbour’s dog kept me awake all night barking.
I get that the sister is young and foolish and has whims. She’s 23 and a nurse. Ok, I can kind of get why she still lives at home. She probably just finished school and is just starting her career. She’s got this wild hair that she wants a doggie that she can hug and pet and squeeze and call George. But if she’s truly smart enough to have become a nurse, you’d think she’d have the brains to realize she can’t have a dog right now. her goal should be establishing her career and independence. When she’s done that, she can consider having a dog.
As for the OP, who still lives at home at that age? I mean, maybe you lost your job and house and moved back home temporarily but if that’s the case looking for a job and not farming in video games should be a priority and certainly not getting a dog.
Who the fuck wants to live at home with mommy and daddy at that age? Damn, I know people have different lifestyle choices, but by 32, I’d been out of the house supporting myself for 7 years.
That is one bizarro thread. The only positive thing to be said about the family is that they won’t train the dog for death matches in a pit.
I’m not seeing the outrage (and I’m not interested in reading the three page thread) - can someone summarize why we’re Pitting YogSosoth today?

Oh great, give him ideas why don’t you.

It’s probably better that you don’t read it. It’s difficult to detail the reasons for the outrage, as Yogsouth doesn’t really want a dog, but the level of ignorance insensitivity he displays is… impressive.

You know, I’m rethinking that. Perhaps a quick death in a fighting pit is preferable to long miserable life with that family.

32-year-old YSs lives with his parents and 23-year-old sister. Sis wants a dog. YSs thinks, rightly, that it’s a bad idea because sis wants the dog because it might help her stop going out partying so much. However she won’t spend too much time looking after it because she works and parties, and YSs has too much WoW to play to do much looking after, and because looking after it is boring, and anyway it wouldn’t be his decision to get it so why should he do anything nya nya nya? The parents are respectively scared and allergic to the dog so they won’t care for it either and it will have to remain in the yard.
Hypothetical dog will therefore spend many hours a day alone, shaved when it gets hot, walked every couple of days, and YSs is asking for the breed of dog that will be able to endure such neglect.
Whereas he should be asking “how in hell can I prevent this atrocity?” and also accepting his responsibility as a household member to alleviate the animal’s suffering, even if it wasn’t his decision to get it.
So, Yog is an idiot manchild who voluntarily lives at home and can’t care for an animal in his household because he’s grinding epic purples for six hour stretches. I am not surprised.

Oh. He does sound like a tool, and I hope he and his sister don’t get any pets until they grow up.

If he ain’t growed up by 32, there ain’t much hope for him.
I read the entire thing. it was painful, but I try to get the whole picture before ranting
As a rescue person…my advice for the sister is to get a cat.
As to YS, he doesn’t want a dog. He is ignorant about what dog ownership means and has admits that he doesn’t want to leave his comp to care for one.
This is a good thing IMO. YS is thinking about how to keep a dog out of his house.
I can’t really see the outrage here. The sister wants a purse dog, YG knows that it is a bad idea and wants suggestions as to help the situation.
YG, tell your sister about Maine Coons. They are very laid back cats who can learn to be purse dogs. Purse cats are way cooler than purse dogs anyhow.

If he ain’t growed up by 32, there ain’t much hope for him.
My point stands.

Oh. He does sound like a tool, and I hope he and his sister don’t get any pets until they grow up.
Now that we’re in the Pit, I can say it: He does sound like a troll.
No, he shouldn’t get a cat either. Cats aren’t necessarily low-maitenance.
Gawd people, it’s a dog! And please quit exaggerating what has been said in that other thread. What he has said is what most dog owners do - dog is in the backyard during the day and then gets some one on one time when the humans get home. You all are acting like leaving the dog in the yard during the day is some sort of torture - in LA, that dog is just going to nap in the sun until people get home from work. The sister may or may not be a good owner prospect, but she has apparently wanted a dog for many years so it does look like she is serious about this. Remember, everything you know about her is coming second hand. None of you have any idea what the sister is going to be doing with this dog. Get off your high horses.
