I made this thread a few years ago that came to the verdict that there aren’t really a lot of spiritual successors to the “collectathon-platformer” genre.
But now, the people from old Rare are making Yooka-Laylee which is the first Kickstarter I’ve ever backed. It looks absolutely great and it’s what I’ve wanted for years.
This thread is a bit early since there’s not much to talk about yet, but I was excited and wanted to share.
That’s cool. I’ve been a fan of Rare since my old spectrum days. The first game I ever bought was “jet pac”. I think “knight lore” is possibly the most influential game ever made (perhaps alongside Elite)
I’ve given them £20. I’ve been a bit careful about the games I’m Kickstarting/Early Accessing, but it seems that teams of devs that have already made games together before pitching for game styles that they love but can’t get published seems to be the way to bet. Pillars of Eternity, Broken Age, Elite… you might have agree that they’re the greatest games, but they are getting finished!
EDIT: Although the voice acting might be a bit rubbish, as they’ve given 15 characters to backers to voice!
I’ve backed it as well. I wasn’t as big of a fan of Banjo as it seems a lot of people were, but I did enjoy it and it looks like there’s a good chance this will end up being fun.
This makes 7 games I’ve backed on Kickstarter. Hopefully I’ll actually get to play one of them soon.
