"You are my sunshine" Stalker song?

I have been creeped out by this song ever since John Travolta sang it in the movie Primary Colors. Lately I’ve heard it enough on the O, Brother soundtrack that the creepiness is starting to wear off.

When I was little, the only verses we knew were the first one and the “When I awoke dear, I was mistaken” verse, so it never seemed creepy, just sad.

Those are the only two verses I knew of before the movie came out (great soundtrack, BTW - won the Oscar that year, IIRC). My mom sometimes used to sing the song as a bedtime song for my sisters and I. I have very pleasant memories associated with it, and have sung it for my boys, too.

Don’t think I’ve ever been to a divorce hearing set to music. Most judges find it distracting. :stuck_out_tongue:

…my sisters and me. :smack:

Actually, it wasn’t Animal, rather a large Muppet known as a “Hugga-Wugga”, it appears to be a Koozbanian creature, it’s primary attack method was a powerful blast of air from it’s nose

can you blame it, the yellow alien was constantly interrupting it’s self-referential song “Hugga-Wugga”, maybe it was a mating call, it was trying to find a female Wugga, and the Bert-oid kept interrupting it…

Funny, I get slightly twitchy about it ever since I read “It’s a Good Life” (by Jerome Bixby) back in 6th grade.

Brian Wilson singing this song on Smile (the second half of track number 5) doesn’t make it sound any less like a stalker song.

Wow, that reminds me of Springsteen’s Downbound Train:

Last night I heard your voice
You were crying, crying, you were so alone
You said your love had never died
You were waiting for me at home
Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods
I ran till I thought my chest would explode
There in the clearing, beyond the highway
In the moonlight, our wedding house shone
I rushed through the yard
I burst through the front door, my head pounding hard
Up the stairs I climbed
The room was dark, our bed was empty
Then I heard that long whistle whine
And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried
