Shitty reality? She’s got enough money to never work again if she doesn’t want to. She’ll never have to worry about health care for her or her kids. In fact, if she was the least bit smart about it, she could drop out of the spotlight and spend the rest of her life doing all of the drugs she wanted and her kids would still get to go to better colleges than your kids. Exhibit A: Keith Richards. Or she could choose to 12-step it and clean herself up. So she’s not the biggest thing in the world any more. So what? She had a good run. Much better than she deserved, IMHO. Would it be a bummer to realize that? Sure, but so what? She’s got the means to do anything she wants with the rest of her life. She chose to be a pissy little girl, and the cops came. And now I have to hear about her fucking life some more.
I’m not sure how this quote answers Diosa’s question to you of why one was transported in an ambulance when the other wasn’t.
You accused Diosa of embellishment, and she explained that she wasn’t embellishing based on what the read. You then (appear to) disparage her for relying on gossip blogs instead of standard news outlets, and she pointed out to you that standard news outlets often get their information regarding celebrity incidents from the same sources.
Why are you still in this thread?
I’m going to have to go ahead and agree with Jodi’s interpretation. If you are going to wait until I read more closely, I suggest you don’t hold your breath.
Her question was “if it’s true…” I provided a cite for it being true. Although it is unclear to me what an ambulance has to do with anything. I’ll try to find the applicable statute, but I doubt that the word “ambulance” is in there anywhere.
She stated, without support, that they got 98% from gossip sheets. I wondered, and she could not explain, how, that being the case, both CNN and MSNBC managed to miss 14 police cars and 3 helicopters.
People keep asking me questions. Why are you?
The thrust, as far as I can tell, is that people are hypocrites for picking on Britney when all this terrible shit is happening to her. My question was, and still is, if there is all this terrible shit happening to her, what is the need to make it seem more terrible than it is?
Yup. Shit like that quite literally frightens me.
I sense a trap. You are engaging in gross nitpickery, and you are inviting me to “read more closely” – IOW, to join you in focusing on minutia and ignoring the thrust of the thread – IOW, to embrace the Dark Side of the Nitpick.
But you will not fool me so easily, Darth Contrapuntal! I am too experienced in making myself look like a nitpicking horse’s butt all on my own! I must decline to join you on this particular occasion.
The only way to defeat pointless nit-pickery is to ignore it.
It’s one of the most effective forms of thread-shitting.
I think all this RO over someone you don’t know and will never know, who could give less than a fuck about what you or I think or say is silly. And, like I said in the other thread, just because I joke does not mean I won’t or can’t sympathize.
So no, I’m not going to get all choked up and shed a tear because Britney is acting like a loon yet again and I do not see how I’m a hypocrit because of this.
See my reply to you via a response to **Maeglin **above. I am unconcerned less with the absolute facts than why they need to be sensationalized. As I said above, for all we know this is just Britney throwing a hissy fit, and speculation abut drug use and mental illness is premature at best. No need to muddy the waters with hyperbole and speculation, especially when one is taking others to task for hypocrisy.
There’s no evidence that CNN missed it at all (I haven’t read MSNBC’s report).
There is, at minimum, the implication that there were more than six police cars around the area of her home. They note six police cars and two ambulances entered her property. The fact that CNN doesn’t give specific numbers in this story doesn’t mean that Diosa’s noting of these numbers from others sources are an exaggeration, either on her part or the part of the sources she’s read/watched. If you disagree, please tell me why.
I can’t argue in favor of the “98%” figure you quote, although I took that to be a figure of speech equating to the phrase “a lot,” which I don’t think is an unreasonable assumption. Still, your interpretation is obviously different, and I can’t call you wrong if you want to take it literally.
Initially, because I was interested in what the OP had to say. Currently, because I’m trying to understand what you’re getting at via your contributions.
Six is not a specific number? Where are the helicopters?
As I said above, for all we know this is just Britney throwing a hissy fit, and speculation abut drug use and mental illness is premature at best. No need to muddy the waters with hyperbole and speculation, especially when one is taking others to task for hypocrisy.
Not only that, she has no skills and doesn’t possess the requisite anonymity to develop them on her own. She’s basically completely retired at age 23. I’d call that a shitty reality.
You know what this thread has reminded me of? When Steve Irwin was killed by a sting-ray and everybody but the Australians joked. The Aussies were really pissed off at how people could laugh when a man died! There was a Pit thread and everything.
I don’t remember a Pit thread about the future Onion headlines about 9/11 thread, though. I wonder why those jokes were O.K.
Can’t say I really get with the OP here. This board comes with a heaping amount of snark, and whether it’s someone getting their eye sucked out by an abusive boyfriend, or someone getting mauled to death by a tiger, it’s something of a sport here. Personally, if such pronouncements, jokes, etc. annoy you, skip the thread. There are a lot more instances of heartlessness that deserve pitting than Britney.
Why? Because unlike the anonymous people who usually end up in RO threads, she has copious resources at her disposal if she in fact wants to get her life under control. There is a way to live in the limelight that doesn’t make you a hermit or a famewhore - see people like George Clooney, for instance. If you ignore the advice of handlers, PR people, and those close to you who can cut through the bullshit because you think your moment of fame is going to last forever, that’s life in the big city.
Britney has cultivated this voyeurism into her life and it’s biting her on the ass. You can’t have it both ways. I have a friend who works with the producers of the TMZ.com show and he’s told me that Britney calls them to tell them where she’s going and so on. You have to stop feeding the beast at some point.
On the other hand, I can muster up some sympathy for her - clearly, she wasn’t the strongest person emotionally before she hit it big, and it seems that there’s plenty of enabling going on around her. Still, moving out of LA for a few months and getting your shit together might be a good idea…
Excellent point- if someone here defending her had a serious problem, and someone told Britney about it, do you think she’d give a flying fuck? I doubt it.
You mistake my meaning. The article says that six police cars entered the property. (emphasis, again, is mine) It does not say, “There were a total of six cars in the area related to this event.” The following sentence mentions that “several” police cars were in the area prior to 10:30pm. Which is not a specific number. And the fact that CNN did not mention the number of police helicopters does not mean that none were present. If you believe differently, so be it. My point is that nothing I’ve read gives me a reason to think Diosa or the so-called tabloids are embellishing those numbers. Which goes back to:
I agree with your point. I just don’t see that that’s what is happening here.
You could probably substitute the word Britney with either…
- A wealthy 20-something
- Am attractive blonde (*)
…And the sentiment you posted would still hold true. Envy often has the ability to bring out the worst in people.
(*) No need to point out it’s bleached or the work of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.
So it is possible for someone to please all of the people, all of the time!
I doubt the same people who show empathy for mental illness are the ones ridiculing Britney. This forum is like a public square with all kinds.
I think it’s an American thing. We tend to laugh about death. I think we got it from the Irish.
