What I’ve always wondered is how the various “Non-Profit Funding Agencies” decide what to research next.
Some of their choices (How Do People Use Pickled Radishes? And Do They Prevent Colon Cancer?) would be faaar down on my list. So. . .
- What should researchers research next?
Oh, what the hell, I’ll throw this one in. I’ve heard this is actually in the works, but nowhere near happening soon. So, let’s throw some serious money into…male contraceptive pills. Yup. I really, really, I mean really want men to be just as responsible for contraception as women, with all the annoying side effects and everything. I want to hear a guy actually admit he missed his pill, they made him queasy, he got bloated taking them and had to stop, his face broke out…I can hardly wait. Bring it on!
That’s a good one.
I’d like a definitive study on MSG. There was one long ago, and MSG was pulled off of shelves. Then the data was dismissed as “inconclusive”. OK, fine. So now is finally the time for a conclusive study. I’m tired of nagging worries about it.
Same with anything else, where the initial scare was dismissed as “misinterpreted”. Time for studies where interpretation is irrelevant, because all points in question were tested for.

I think it would be nice for researchers to find a cure for tinnitus.
They keep saying “It’s a symptom, not a disease”. Sure, but so is a cough or headache, and there’s tons of research on suppressing the symptoms. There may be a way to cure the symptom.
