Yesterday afternoon about 3 PM I went on line to the Apple store to order my daugher a video iPod for her 21st birthday.
While I was there I ordered a case for her new iPod.
Don’t forget this order was place after 3PM Yesterday.
Today at noon my wife called me and said I had a package. Yup, the case was delivered today, less that 24 hours after the order was placed.
Wow!
There’s two things at play here - first is Apple’s ability to pull an order and get it into a box before the FedEx truck takes off.
Second is FedEx and their ability to fling boxes across the planet at eye-popping speeds.
Both are fairly impressive feats, actually.
I had a very similar delivery today - I placed an online order at about 2PM yesterday and FedEx brings it at 9:30 today.
A few years ago, some computer parts dealers had arrangements where they were located in Memphis near the FedEx air hub and you could call them at any time before midnight and they’d box it up and pop it over to the airport for the next outbound FedEx airplane for delivery in less than 12 hours from when you placed the order.
