You can NOT top this...

I find the fact that a woman takes a previously abused animal and then proceeds to dress it up in clothing and subject it to photo sessions absurd and cruel. If you had seen that poor creature on CNN shaking like it was a neurotic wreck, you wouldn’t have thought it was cute at all.
Crunchy Frog, lighten up, it’s not like we’re subjecting the dog directly to any type of cruelty or harm, we’re just expressing our dislike for the overly cute, which, last time I checked, was a matter of opinion and you know what they say about opinions…

Just take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the day, hideously cute dog or not.

I mean it. I am SUCH a sucker for cute, little things. You could take a giant man-eating squid and shrink it down to cute size and I’d drool all over it.

Of course, I also love Bad Andy.

eek!

Why doesnt’ it surprise me?

I normally cannot stand doggie dressup, I normally cannot stand tiny little rat dogs…but Mr. Winkle is something else entirely. Between the gigantic eyes and the tongue that perpetually dangles, not to mention his size, that dog is insanely cute. And you really should see him walk, it’s adorable.

Crunchy: thanks for the vigorous defense of Mr. Winkle… I’m sure he appreciates it.

Monkeylucifer: you obviously do not own a dog. Dogs just want to be loved, played with, cared for and paid attention to. As long as it doesn’t hurt, they are happy with whatever we do. I’m sure Mr. Winkle is a very happy dog. And small dogs often shiver.

Mr. WINKLE RULES!!!

Hey monkeylucifer, I got your sense of humor about cruelty to animals right here

For every man there is a woman. Marry me!

Crunchy -

(disclaimer -haven’t seen the ‘movie’; can’t load it for some reason.)

Back to the OP - it is not cute. Abused or not. It is not something I would consider cute, cuddly or any adjectives of that ilk. (Lord knows I have copious amounts of estrogen running through me and the motherhood gene can kick into overdrive at unexpected moments:
“Ooohisn’tthatsuchapweciouswiddlecuteyhoneypieyesyouarearen’tyouoooohyesyouaresuchasweetie…etc.”

But that animal is just not something that I would consider cute (the motherhood alarm was silent on this one, more revulsion than anything). Likely it is something that was (if purebred) was overbred without a thought to bloodlines to make a fast buck for someone or (if stray) the parents (obviously) weren’t neutered. In any case, the proportions are too far off to make it cute. More pathetic and pitiable than anything.

[And yes, animal (and child and elderly and spousal abuse) sickens me, too.]

I still want to know why they picked such a name. It’s horrible! That’s probably why I am laughing at it - reminds me of a fuzzy one.

You gotta see the movie, Screech. I think you’d change your tune. The single picture I picked happens to emphasize his head over his body, so he looks particularly odd, (and particularly cute, I think) but he’s really not that freakish looking. Check out the way he looks on the front page, much more conventional:

http://www.mrwinkle.com/index2.htm

He has all his fur there, but I like him better shaved.

But watch the movie, he’s mondo-cute.

Oh fer cryin’ out loud. I’m prolly one of the biggest animal loving “freaks” on this message board, but I have a sense of humor. That thing is UGLY. But if it were going into cardiac arrest at my hospital, I would revive it just like any other animal.

Sorry screech-owl, I don’t know why you can’t load the movie either.

Cyndar - I’m not complaining about poeple thinking it’s ugly or cute. It’s the jokes about violence to the animal that got to me.

Here’s an excerpt from my Pit thread (which also explains in greater detail why I have no sense of humor about joking about hurting an animal) that I hope helps you see why I think this lashing out at something for looks (whether good or bad) is extremely stupid:

“It’s ironic that when someone a while back posted a link to fugly.com, everyone jumped in to tell him what an ass he was for being so shallow as to laugh at the ugly people. But it’s ok as long as they’re ‘too cute’ to threaten killing it.”

So we defend the overly ugly, but despise the overly cute? That’s a double-standard to me.

Now if anyone has any questions or comments about what I said here, please go to my Pit thread (there is a link for you above) and let’s not pollute Stoidela’s thread with it any longer.

shrug Eh.

I don’t think he’s all that cute, except maybe in a mildly teddy-bear sort of way. I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to wish Mr. Winkle any specific bodily harm, but me and Mrs. O would probably make jokes about him when he wasn’t around.

First, the disturbing comment was said in jest. I don’t find it truly disturbing, thought I don’t find it cute. Nor am I sure it’s a dog. I think you took a harmless little comment WAY too far.

Also, I do not condone violence towards nor the hurting of animals or anything else. Had I thought Xizor was serious, I would not have responded like that. He was kidding and so was I. Take a freaking joke.

Before the next person tells me to take a joke or get a sense of humor, please read about my experiences in dealing with abused animals in my Pit thread, a link to which is located about 8 posts up or so, to understand why this is a touchy subject for me.

I will admit to getting overly-emotional about this, and posted to this thread hastily. The Pit thread however is not about people making jokes about the animal, but telling me to lighten up about it. Again, please read my posts there to get a better understanding of why I’m so emotional about the topic.

Child and animal abuse are the most sensitive subjects for me to deal with. I’m sorry for chastizing everyone here for having some harmless fun. I admit I overeacted about the jokes here, but I resent anyone telling me to have a sense of humor about this until they see what I’ve seen.

And I’ll request again that we not hijack Stoidela’s thread any longer. If you have something to say to me about my posts here go to the Pit.

Since you have already apologized for over reacting in this thread, there’s prolly not much need for me to see your Pit thread.

Secondly, I am pretty sure that this thing IS a dog…some sort of pom mix or something.

I came in on this too late. Thanks, Crunchy Frog. I’m behind you 100%. I think that a dog is a dog is a dog, regardless of size, and us small dog people get to hear this kind of thing all the time.

Sorry, small-dog bigots, I think this little sucker is cute. I agree, looks like a pom mix, and I like little bright-eyed, high-stepping poms. I can’t load the movie at work or I’d enjoy seeing him.

[hijack]
It took me a couple of glances, but I finally figured out it’s POM not PORN (the lower-case letters kinda link together…).
“I like little bright-eyed, high-stepping porns.”

Sorry, please return to the discussion without me. I’m gonna lie down for awhile.
[/hijack]

UUUUUUMMMMMMMM I THOUGHT THEY HAD LAWS AGAINST THIS SORT OF THING… THAT IS A SCARY DOGTHING! IT BELONGS IN A SIDE SHOW, NOT A CALENDAR!!! YUCK, “MR. WINKLES” if that is your REAL name, YOU SUCK!!!

Sorry, yamo. There’s already a Mr. Sunshine. But he doesn’t appreciate my love of cute little fluffy adorable things like you would!

Um, now that I’ve finally figured out (or was told) that “Cyndar” is Michi, I suggest that we can remove the “prolly” from the second sentence. Also “one of”.

As for the OP, I’ll say that I actually don’t think he’s ugly, and I’ll even go so far as to say he looks kind of cute. (Not as cute as Michi, though.)

But he looks a bit disturbing, kind of like a space alien. And it looks SEVERELY undernourished more than anything else. (I realize that it might be the breed, but “undernourished” was my first thought, anyway.)
