It wouldn’t have been so bad if it was just the 380 in her purse but she had** 7 live rounds, a full clip and one in the chamber.** What the hell was she thinking? I carry a gun, have for YEARS and have NEVER “forgotten” I was carrying it. I am hyper aware that I have it on me because I’m afraid that someone might see it when I open my purse and freak out.

It’s these sorts of incidents that give the anti-Gun crowd multiple orgasms. You can bet this one will be cited in the next Colorado ride down the legislative slope.
Enormous Rights should have Enormous Responsibilities. Forgetting you have a gun and bringing it into an area where you are painfully familiar with the policy not to have guns should result in actual fines, permanent revocation of her CC permit, and possibly actual jail time if she is a repeat offender. And I think there had better be some serious scrutiny to make sure that she doesn’t get any kind of special deal with hubby being in the TSA.
The apple incident is just scary. I’ve brought a lot worse than that through customs, mostly out of ignorance. Another example of how the customs service, like immigration and naturalization, is a rogue agency completely out of control.
This is an anti-stupid and forgetful thing. People leave kids in cars, reach into running lawnmowers, allow their police dogs to rush civilians, shudddddder shoot themselves or get their kids killed with I-thought-the-gun-was-unloaded-but-didn’t-check-or-forgot-about-it-like-an-imbecile-with-a-round-chambered type guns…
But, I agree, this is very serious because of the circumstances all the previous posters have outlned. Guns are not toys or nail files. Often you only get one mistake with a gun.
A friend of my mom’s once forgot she had a gun in her purse. She threw it to her husband for him to grab something out of and he dropped it and got shot in the arm.
