I’m so seething right now I don’t know what to do with myself. I just found out that one of my friends was killed early this morning in a car accident with a drunk driver, the accident being her fault (the drunk driver).
That’s TERRIBLE enough. What’s even worse?
Not only is she a FUCKING JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL, but SHE WAS ALREADY IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT A YEAR AGO DUE TO HER DRUNK DRIVING THAT BADLY SCARRED HER!!
AND NOW SHE’S FUCKING KILLED SOMEBODY?
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS FUCKED UP WORLD?
I hope you go to jail and rot, you fucking unholy bitch.
My condolences on the loss of your friend, Davidson.
Heloise and I were almost killed on the freeway yesterday by some guy that we were both sure was either drunk or on drugs. He swerved his car into my lane just as he came up along side of me, forcing me to slam on my brakes and swerve to my right. Thank G-D the guy behind me was far enough back not to ram into me from behind and there were no cars to my right, or we’d have been in a very, very serious accident. He proceeded to fly up the freeway, jerking the steering wheel from side to side, swerving back and forth across all the lanes, nearly hitting a dozen cars before we lost sight of him. [sub][side note]: we dialed 911 on Heloise’s cell phone, but the lousy bastards NEVER ANSWERED THE FREAKIN’ PHONE!![/sub]
The sons of bitches who drink (or do drugs) and drive ought to be put behind bars for life.
I assume that a high school junior would be under legal drinking age in the US, thus having committed a number of offences even before the accident.
I guess one reason I’ve never been hugely in favour of people being able to get driver’s licences before the age of majority is because of the messy legal situation it creates when something goes wrong (where were the driver’s parents and why was she able to get drunk, let alone get behind the wheel of a car in that condition).
I can only hope that when this case comes to court, justice will be served and it will be a very long time before this young lady is ever afforded the privilege of a driver’s licence again.
First,
my condolences for your loss, Dark Lord Davidson.
Second, I am not a lawyer so don’t even take my legal advice as the gospel, but this girl can and almost assuredly will be tried as an adult. Many (if not all) courts agree that a licensed minor driver will be given the a “standard of care” of an adult, when it comes to an accident. The courts believe, rightly so, that operating a potentially dangerous vehicle, and taking a test to do so, comes with it certain responsibilities that ALL drivers accept when they get behind the wheel. She may be 17, but she’s an adult as far as the law is concerned.
It’s a sad thing when someone takes a life with their own carelessness, but I wonder how the driver will be able to live with herself after all this. She will carry the weight of her guilt, probably all her life.
That doesn’t excuse what she has done. Once again, you have my condolences.
I am sorry to hear about your friend, Davidson. I wish there was something any of us could say or do to make it better, but I know there’s not. Please accept my condolences.
My stepmother and stepbrother were killed by a drunk driver when I was 16. I still feel a terrible shock to think that one moment they were there, alive, and the next minute they weren’t, all because of the irresponsable and inexcusably stupid behavior of another person (whose license had been revoked previously).
I hope the girl who hit your friend pays for her actions. You are absolutely right that she should have learned her lesson before, and as reprise mentioned, her parents should have learned their lesson before too. I can’t begin to imagine the guilt they will all feel about this, but I bet it will last their whole lives. I hope it does. Maybe while this girl is in jail paying for what she’s done, she can get her life together, realize the damage she’s done, and work to make amends with her life.

EXACTLY! If they cannot be held legally responsible for their actions because they’re a minor, who is? The parents? I don’t agree with that, however, the whole legal mess would be solved by having to be an adult to drive. I feel that if there is any reason why you cannot be held fully responsible for your actions, it should be illegal to do that activity.
My condolences. I have had a friend hurt by the same but not killed.
It’s possible, but I find this unlikely. Is she was willing to drive drunk I don’t think a small matter like a valid license would have stopped her.
Heck, at times it seemed like half my high school acquaintences were driving on suspended licenses. (Not me though, I don’t even drive if I realize I forgot my wallet somewhere.)
