It’s the presence of any profanity. PLease not the word extreme.
In this case, a bad driving experience, I think the use of “maggoty cuntdripping” and
“goddamned whore” as well as “fucking cunt” in the thread title are over the top.
Only my opinion. You would likely consider me a flaming asshole if I called the clerk at the counter a “stupid cunt” for giving me incorrect change.
Incorrect change doesn’t get people killed, typically. That moment of thoughtlessness, not to mention blaming it on the driver rather than herself, could have cost that stupid double-parking cunt her life and severely traumatized a learning driver.
Please, let’s at least give the lady her correct title… ‘maggoty cuntdripping’ is something she’s obviously worked hard to get - it’s not just any cunt who can scare the crap out of a student driver and her instructor and then have the balls to scream abuse at *them * to boot.
If the woman had been parked in a regular spot by the kerb, the OP wouldn’t have anything to bitch about. But she was double-parked, which means she’s taking up a lane that’s meant to be used by moving traffic. The inconsiderate pieces of shit that do this on a regular basis are a menace to other road users.
Clarifying my post - the clause “not to mention blaming it on the driver rather than herself” should have been split out into its own sentence which indicated that this confirmed she was deserving of abuse. As written it makes it sound like swearing is likely to get you killed in an accident. (On purpose? That depends on who’s driving the other car…)
Would you care to post the relevant portions of the state vehicle code that support your assertions?
I’m only asking because you’ve posted some absolutist positions above. BTW, did you not notice that the OP mentioned that she was driving with her driving instructor?
Second, if you read my first response, you’ll have an answer to your second question.
Third, I’m wondering if other folks mean something different by “double parked” than what I mean. When I say someone’s double-parked, I mean that they’re taking up two regular parking spaces: if it’s parallel parking, then they’re completely within legal parking spaces, but they’re taking up half of one and half of another. It’s an annoying and illegal way to park, but it’s not any more dangerous to moving traffic than a single-parked vehicle. As such, I’m confused by stuff like:
Yow, Dark, that’s terrifying. I once saw a girl open a car door into a bike lane (to get out for school–the roads were crowded and they were stopped at a light); a bicyclist was coming along and slammed into the open door, flipping over it and landing nearly on his head. Very luckily (this was ~15 years ago) he was wearing a helmet, and was still alive though in pain. The idiot girl hadn’t been able to get out of the car–it was that fast–and sat there having hysterics.
You know what unnerving episode I had while learning to drive? Actually it was my first driving test. We got out of the DMV and she told me to turn down a little street that had a railroad track running down the center of it, no fence or gate or anything, but I had never actually seen a train use that track and thought it was disused. So I turned the corner and there was a train coming straight at me. There was room for cars on either side and everything, and I got by it OK, but it was entirely nervewracking, and I took a curb turning the corner and failed the test. But hey, how many people are faced with that during their test?
I was under the impression that any time you opened a car door into traffic, it was your responsibility to make sure nothing was coming and you were automatically at fault if a passing car took the door off.
What I’m talking about is your saying the OP bears the ultimate responsibility for the collision had it occurred. You’re simply wrong as has been pointed out to you already. I’m tlaking about you providing some kind of official (as in the local law that governs operation of a motor vehicle) support for your outlandish assertion.
Let’s use the accepted definitions, please: [url=http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=doublepark]Definition of doublepark from dictionary.com
Since you’re obviously confused on what doublepark means, you must’ve misinterpreted the situation in the OP. The OP was not in the lane adjacent to the legally parked cars. She was in the lane adjacent to that one. What you think doublparking is is what most individuals I know call “taking up more than one space.” What the rest of us call doubleparking is inherently dangerous.
Wolfian: Perhaps the instructor was calm and the only option, given whatever the distance was when the illegally parked individual opened her door, was to slam on the brakes (perhaps antilock brakes?)?
Yes, I often get mistaken for a boy. No worries. As for the cursing, I just needed to vent. The lady was being a complete idiot, and I’m sure you agree with that part at least, cosmosdan. Everything I said was most likely exaggerated because of how I was feeling. The more I thought about the event, the more I realized how close I came to hitting her and knocking her door off. And it scared me.
And as for the “never driving” thing, that was said a bit hastily. I have no intention of quitting the lessons.
I won’t let my feelings cloud my posting judgement anymore. Sorry.
Okay, I’m apparently an idiot: been driving for thirteen years, and I’m only now learning what “double-park” means. I have no idea where I got my previous conception of the word’s meaning, but it’s clearly wrong.
I withdraw my previous comments even further, and apologize.
BTW, you want to see some serious doubleparking? Come to Bucheon. Doubleparking? Phhht! Triple, quadruple, and this weekend (3 day weekend) quintuple parking will be the norm. Traffic regulations exist purely to decorate the paper on which they’re printed.
Daniel: you’re off base. “Double parking” is parking in one of the lanes reserved for traffic, next to the full curb of parked cars. The OP was not travelling in the right-most traffic lane; she was one lane over, where the hazards of sudden door openings is usually quite small.
Which, on preview, I see you now know.
cosmosdan: Oh, yeah. The OP should have opened her fan, fanned herself a bit, and said, “My stars! That driver certainly gave me a start! She should really learn to be more careful.”
Is that more along the lines of what you’d be looking for?
