You knew it was going to happen...

I’m hearing news reports that in Florida (?) a small group of Palestinian (Islamic?) students were celebrating the terrorist attack on the WTC and Pentagon. Evidently police had to hold back their fellow students from killing them. (If anybody has an online link it would be appreciated.)

Sometimes free speech sucks.

fascinating. They’re in our country, receiving an education, I assume willingly (unless we’re forcing people to go to college here now), and yet seemingly they still see us as The Great Satan.

I hope they appreciate the freedom they have to do that here.

jarbaby

I know that when I saw the Palestinians celebrating on the news, I wanted to hit somebody. I feel really bad about it, but I did.

I have never celebrated the defeat of a US enemy, regardless of the situation. I can’t imagine dancing in the streets after the Israelis bomb a Palestinian target.

Fucking pathetic. And it sure won’t help temper our citizens’ thirst for “justice.”

I’m willing to beat they don’t.

How hard must have been for the police to keep the other students from exercising their “freedom of expression” by kicking the celebrant’s asses.

I would ask these students, point blank, if their countries would protect OUR students over there if they started cheering when their countries were bombed…

I heard something similar about a Palestinian neighborhood in New Jersey.

I don’t believe it. I can’t conceive of how anyone could be such hypocrites.

i think it was the great Sam Kinneson who said something to the effect, “i dont condone violence. i understand it though. i know what turns mr. hand into mr. fist”

i have often wondered why so many people who despise our (my) country are here, benefiting from the very freedoms they want to destroy…

Ah, are we present at the birth of an UL?

'Cause I’ve been Searching at all the news sites under “Palestinian students Florida celebrate” and combinations thereof, and I don’t see anything.

Just this.

Did you hear it on the radio, or what? Was there a location for these “students”, like U-F at Gainesville? If so, it didn’t make it into the Sun.

Free speech never sucks. Sometimes, oftentimes, the speech that is protected sucks, but the protection itself is one of the top 5 things that make this country great.

I don’t think this actually happened. No one can be that stupid (not to mention bloodthirsty), no one!

I know of the occurance in the West Bank, and the official Iraqi responce, but for someone in the United States to celebrate, OPENLY, requires more stupidity that any human beings are allowed to posses.

I heard on FoxNews several times today that there was a incident where thousands of Palestinians were celebrating, but the Palestinian government threatened death to any cameraman who covered the celebration. They don’t want such stuff to get out.

I believe that there are some celebrations in Palestine - but it’s hard to believe that anyone would be so stupid to do it here (at least openly).

Is a story about a demonstration by the Muslim youth group of a mosque in the UK. Everything from chanting anti-US slogans to wearing t-shirts with Osama Bin-Laden’s picture on it. It’s amazing how someone so young, who has probably had only marginal first hand experience with Americans, can be so angry.

There have been Islamic mosques attacked in the US by vigilantees. Two incidents in my metro area today.

I promised an Islamic friend at work that if there begin to be efforts to profile Islamic/Arabic members of the population(as there was during WW2 with the Japanese population, and some of them even sent off to camps) that at least myself and my household would vehemntly protest to anyone who would listen and a few who wouldn’t.

I fear this is just the beginning.

Freudian slip?

The only example I’ve heard of large-scale Palestinan celebration ( a figure of 3,000 was quoted ) was in the embattled town of Nablus. Most of the rest of the West Bank and Gaza appear to have been quiet. But I won’t swear to the absolute accuracy of any of the above.

Whatever the number, from the indications so far it certainly doesn’t appear to have been a large-proprtion of the Palestinian population that was dancing in the streets. I suspect that, as usual, it is the vocal minority ( or lunatic fringe, if you prefer ). I’ve heard anecdotal reports ( some of them posted on this board ) of Palestinians expressing horror and sympathy as well.

I, too, would view this report with skepticism. Esprix, you said you heard it on the news. What news report?

I’m starting to think it’s propaganda-staged, or related to something else, or old footage.

Brought about by severe lack of caffine and sleep.

In a related note, my wife’s best friend lives on the island of St. Maarten. Half the island is run by the Dutch, the other half by the French. Apparently some people on the French side have been celebrating the fact that the U.S. finally got bloodied.

KOGO 600 AM news/talk radio here in San Diego. Perhaps I misheard, I dunno…
