Your manager starts planning for the summer holiday period.
The email just arrived:
- who’s available to cover the Christmas/New year week?
- how many weeks will you be having off in January?
- what about the Australia Day weekend?
Your manager starts planning for the summer holiday period.
The email just arrived:
Aaaahhhh! Nooo!
Don’t mention Christmas!
Too soon! Too soon!

In other good news, my debt will be paid off by then. I think that will be the best Christmas present.
Wait, wait…“summer holiday”…“Christmas”.
Man, that is one fucked up hemisphere you got there.
It’s even scarier when you start to see christmas decorations on sale.
It’s SEPTEMBER! Who in their right mind would buy decorations now?
I haven’t seen any on sale yet thankfully.
Tell me about it. I just heard an ad the other day saying something about the latest Spring fashions… Totally baffled me. I had started getting my head around the idea of Summer/Winter being reverse, but had completely neglected the Fall/Spring switch.
And having Christmas in the summer is going to be very odd indeed…
Do you have Sears there in the Land Down Under? They start dragging them out right about now. Very disconcerting to go into a Sears store in September and see Christmas trees up and decorated, along with a couple of aisles of Christmas decorations. What’s worse are the (obviously crazy) people buying them!
That would be me. I love the Christmas season, I love Christmas decorations, I hate that the season is over too soon so I start getting in the spirit as soon as the decorations start appearing.
Some of our stores are starting to put their decorations out already. How exciting!
It’s not just us? The Christmas insanity is international? I actually feel a little better.
I have a friend like this. She puts her (fake) tree up before Halloween. And last year, when we made fun of her, we were courteously invited to kiss her Holly Jolly Ass, as she put it.
You know Christmas isn’t all that far away when you go into a store over the Labor Day weekend and see the tree being set up and decorated.
Frankly, I think we should all boycott any store that puts up Christmas decorations prior to December 1 and/or plays Christmas music over the intercom prior to December 22nd (what the heck, give 'em three days to torture us).
No, we don’t have Sears, but the local equivalents carry on in much the same way.
A number of my friends are part of a large choir - who are putting together a Christmas album with a well known singer - it’s very strange to hear carols at this time of year too (intermingled with their rehearsals and recordings for the Grand Final entertainment - football songs and carols do not mix).
