I’ve heard that the next series, if there is one, is likely to be about Kirk, McCoy, and Spock as young Academy Cadets.
If that’s true, then you know who should write the show?
Josh Whedon.
Seriously. I’m serious!

Who is that, Joss Whedon’s younger brother?
My vote’s for Diane Duane or one of the novelists who’ve written a thousand thousand Star Trek Novels.
Stephen King.
David Weber.
“Fire photon torpedos , full spread !”
“Twenty thousand torpedos away, Captain !”
Weber likes missles. Lots and lots of missles.
Quentan Tarantino.
In the end, Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scottie kill each other in a blazing phaser battle.

You know who should write the next Trek series?
No one.
The franchise is dead. Stop kicking the corpse and let it rest with whatever tattered shreds of dignity can still be drawn together around it.
Yes.
I hate to say it; I loved the original Star Trek series when I saw it in reruns (I’m a few years too young to have seen it on TV when it originally aired), and I have enjoyed each successive series less and less, to the point that I only watched an episode or two of the last three series.
There’s really nothing new to add to the franchise, after five series and eight (?) movies. It’s time to let it go.
Sorry about the typo, everyone.
As to the series being dead, I half-agree. I think there shouldn’t be a revival----for at least another 20 years or so.
In 20 years, I’m willing to see what kind of new ideas the culture can bring to the franchise.

James Joyce.
If it takes place in the Academy, I’d have to say J.K Rowling.
David Mamet.
“These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five year mission; to figure out what’s in the fuckin’ Case. Is it heavy? Is it fragile? To we have to cut off some poor bastard Thallasian’s arm to get it? First prize is a Cadillac shuttlecraft. Second prize is a set of laser knives? Anybody want to guess what third prize is?”
It would be totally awesome, at least for the first few episodes. Barring that, they need to bury this horse in a deep, depleted well so people stop kicking it in hope of bringing it back to life.

I could see a series about academy cadets working. I can’t see it working with those three, especially since McCoy is quite a bit older. And despite my affection for these characters, I think they are played out.
And Spock is older than either of the other two.
But he was supposed to be fairly new to Starfleet, wasn’t he?
McCoy’s the oldest of the three, actually. He was born in 2227 whereas Spock and Kirk were born in 2230 and 2233, respectively.
Really hate to do this… cite?
as IIRC, in the series it was firmly established that Spock was in his 70’s while Kirk would’ve been mid 30s.
Of course, perhaps that was 70 vulcan years…
