That should have been “Wonderful ‘What the Fuck’ radio!”, of course.
When the highest rated station in the area calls itself, “Great Classics Q-107” and is the worst adult contemporary crap station you’ve ever heard. Those “classics” are the same soft rock songs from circa. 1978 that you never stopped playing you just worked in all the Celine Dion and Phil Collins songs. They have gotten a little better during the 12 am-6am shift, but they are still my mainstream lame-o detector. If they play a brand new song it is always horrible. If a new song is actually decent they won’t play it until it is dropping down the pop charts and fading from every other playlist. Their DJs and their “Saturday Night at the Oldies” show some of the idiots at work listen too would rate it’s own Pit thread from me.
We had a better adult contemporary station that was actually giving them a challenge in the ratings about five years ago. I liked the station because they also had a fairly eclectic (for North Alabama anyway) Saturday night radio show with modern rock, obscure oldies, and a touch of Frank Zappa every now and then. The station was then sold to the Evil Bland Station above and turned into yet another lame modern country station. How any of them make money or get ratings since they all have the same playlists and cover the same area is beyond me.
And Clear Channel has 6 out of the 16 commercial stations in our market, every cliche and horror story about them is in full effect here as well.
Those of you out there in DopeLand who haven’t visited the continental United States (or worse, decided to forget your CDs while driving across them) cannot begin to imagine how welcome brain-stem death becomes when “Hotel California” begins playing for the 94th time.
Rush and Pink Floyd have produced some of the best rock songs ever!
Oh and You know your city’s radio stations suck when Don and Mike are on the air.
