You know your username goes at the top of every post, right?

So what happens if that part gets quoted? Does the whole board see the change?

'Scuse my underwear,
xoferew

Oh noes, the Grapist is back

Yup

That’s a very good point, and I honestly agree.

But your post would have been a million times pithier if you hadn’t signed it this time.

You gotta know when to use it, and when to lose it!

I’m not sure why I’m singled out. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

ETA: mmm

To answer the OP, yes, I do know my name appears at the top of each post, but I sign my name, (Q, Quasi, Quasimodem, Bill) because it makes each thing I write a little more personable.

I usually sign my real name when the subject being discussed is of a serious nature. That’s the one time I don’t use my nickname (and that isn’t meant to criticize anyone who doesn’t, it just means that’s part of my personality).

But I had no idea until I read this thread that it bothers people, so thanks for letting me know.

Q

OMG! That’s my user name! No wonder people calling me that.

It’s never bothered me.

~And Shit

I think it’s because it’s such a tiny deal.

Great, now I NEED to know!

I always snip your salutation out when I quote you, because that’s how I roll.

Want!

Yours as ever,
Cat Whisperer

I also don’t like the way you’re sitting. Don’t slouch. And wipe that smirk off your face.

I AM slouching! How did you know? I’m not smirking, though.

You know your username goes underneath every thread, right? The username is the Thread Starter.

I always sign with an abbreviated version of my name, because I like having a nickname for my handle.

This thread reminds me of a coworker of mine a while ago, who always signed her e-mails

-Me

Although not as strongly, I do agree with the op. With the exception of one poster…

love,
yams!!

It could be worse.

Your post has been slanted by The Slanter.

Yup. We’re going to have the world’s very first (or at least it has to be the first, right?) Dopeghanistan sometime later, probably after it warms up a little. Thank you for loaning him to us, BTW… I know deployments are tough for spouses, and this one’s particularly tough for my wife, but I know he’s helping us out a lot over there.

No, not ire. That’s the point… it was just something I noticed while browsing the other day, and it was the definition of MPSIMS, so I posted.

OK, that’s just eerie.

Quasi, would it be possible for you to consider using the signature field, or is there some reason why you specifically don’t want to use that feature?

This also goes for others who sign their post. Does your insistence on typing the signature into every post instead of using the signature field have some specific motivation? If not, would it somehow be possible for you to consider using it?

As I mentioned upthread, the benefit for us all, as I see it, to everyone using the signature field, is that other users can choose if they want to see your sign-offs or not. If this is a problem for you, could you explain why?

(If you don’t know where the signature function is located, it’s under “Quick Links” > “User Control Panel” > “Edit signature”. To show or hide signatures, go to “Quick Links” > “Edit Options”, then scroll down to “Thread Display Options” and check / uncheck “Show Signatures”.)

Martian, I think Quasi’s point was that he doesn’t sign all of his posts the same way. Signing “Bill” vs. “Q” means something. What does it hurt for him to do that? It’s one word at the end of a post. It’s not like a multi-line piece of ASCII art or something.

I doesn’t hurt, really. It’s just seems pointless and annoying.
