You liberals better get f**king!

Diogenes, personal insults are not allowed outside the Pit. Please do not do this again.

Well, all I can say is that DrMatrix and I will keep trying.

While I don’t question your call on this, I think Bear Nenno’s personal trash talk merits a warning, too.

Actually, Dio, if you’d had read the article:

I’m doing my part to raise my kidlets to be good little libertarian-conservatives. I’m sure you’re diong your part to raise your kidlets to be good little liberals.

C’mon, given the “liberals think conservatives are stoopid” meme, the joke was obvious enough that somebody was required to do it.

<shrug> Whatever. Anyhoo, Kornbluth was still a better writer than you or I will ever be.

Sounds to me like they are more likely to be libertarian to conservative types. You did say they can think for themselves, right?

Damn it, who ate my smilie? There was supposed to be a :stuck_out_tongue: at the end of this.

I saw Bear’s comments as attacking an entire group of people, not a personal insult. It was provocative and inflammatory, yes, but no worse than many other “group-directed” insults tossed about on these boards without repercussion.

I’m doing my best not to impose any political ideology on them at all.

Sorry. When I posted that, I thought I was in the Pit for some reason. Sloppy browsing. My bad.

It comes through, believe me. They’re like sponges.

Yeah, the story was entertaining. And “stupid” was too strong a word for the premise. However, the story implied that intelligence is correlated with income level, something I don’t think is true.

Actually, one defense of doing something silly like claiming a single number, called the IQ, is a measure of your intelligence is that it is the best predictor of income level - even within a family. (I’m not defending that position, it is just one that has been tossed out at me.)

Come to think of it, I’m more conservative than most Dopers, and I one the “most of” thread a while back for most kids. I probably still end up as liberal on most polls, though.

I admire the sentiment in one respect, but it’s just impossible. You can’t possibly present the situation without leaning to one side.

And overall, that’s ok.

What’s that old saying… What’s a conservative? A liberal who has kids!

Didn’t work for me.

Y’know, I’m fairly liberal and everything; I won’t vote for conservatives or Republicans or whatever - my choice, of course. And I expect everyone else to do the same, whether they’re conservative, liberal or whatever. Why does this simple choice have to permeate your other life choices? Why does the minutest factoid that allegedly correlates with some political ideology or other have to turn into a nasty partisan bickerfest?

I already know part of the answer, that humans are wired to be evangelical about their choices/opinions as some silly form of validation, but why can we not step back, recognize this for what it is, and move on? Being distracted by this kind of bullshit is precisely what the people who depend on our inaction to survive want. Don’t give it to them. (yeah, I know; Them, ooooh!)

Hmmm. My Dad went from conservative (voted for Goldwater) to the most liberal of Dems today. My mother has always been a liberal.

I am liberal, Husband is a moderate GOP–but all 3 kids are liberal. (see, replaced us + one).
I think it has more to do with SES–aren’t more highly educated people more likely to use birth control, marry later and have fewer, if any, kids? (gross generalization here re liberals being wealthier overall).

Also, those oh so red states–mostly Bible belt, no? So perhaps there is limited access to abortion clinics, birth control and maybe even cultural pressures? I’m just speculating.

Well, actually, you’ll probably have a lot more ethnic and racial division as people start choosing up sides to compete for scarce resources. Liberalism, environmental or otherwise, will be a luxury many if not most people will decide they can’t afford.

The way I heard it, it’s a liberal who’s been mugged. :stuck_out_tongue:
