You seem to struggle with understanding that our rules apply to you. It will continue to cause you problems, and complaining about our rules and how we have interpreted them in various threads will very likely lead to ongoing sanctions for you.
I have no more to say on the subject.
I can think of at least a couple of posters, easily offhand, who were banned for expressing left-wing views in strident, obnoxious, and divisive language.
I’m not going to bother hunting up the links, though, because I don’t care to help you. But you are, assuredly, quite wrong.
Maybe not pro-Left speech per se, but the mods have noted and warned people for inappropriate anti-Trump posts.
If we’re thinking about the same posters, it wasn’t that they were banned or suspended for expressing “left-wing views” but for being insulting, obsessive serial posting (as in four or five posts in a row responding to one post), ‘creatively editing’ quotations, or other violations of explicit rules or the general ‘don’t be a jerk’ protocol. ‘Conservative’ posters that were banned, suspended, or just driven away were almost exclusively done so because they were trolling, ‘sealioning’,repeatedly posting untrue or misrepresented ‘facts’, or otherwise being chronically disruptive. Using “formerly innocent and neutral words that are now ‘hate speech’” will (setting aside that this isn’t what actual ‘hate speech is’) get you a mild rebuke for using an outmoded term that is indicative of racial prejudice, misogyny, or some other expression of bigotry, followed by a warning if you elect to be defiant or deliberately obtuse.
Frankly, (and I speak from direct experience) the moderators give a lot of rope, numerous warnings, and at least one suspension before banning anyone who isn’t just blatantly trolling or wantonly shit-posting; if you get repeatedly warned or banned here, it is almost certainly a bed of your own making.
Stranger
Well, yes. The second half of the sentence is the operative element regarding the motivation for the bans. As in, it’s not what one says, it’s how one says it. And there are certainly examples from the Board’s history of posters who advocated positions the majority of posters generally agree with but whose advocacy was framed in unacceptable and disruptive terms and thus were shown the exit.
Whereas I can’t think of anybody that has been cited, warned or even banned merely because their speech was “right wing”…unless, of course, you are stipulating that one cannot be right wing without breaking the already established rules.
You aren’t, are you?
How about being banned for it?
Granted, it wasn’t for having left wing opinions, but nobody is banned (or otherwise modded) for having right wing opinions either. It’s how and where you express them that can get you in trouble.
Fair enough, thanks for the responses. I still feel like I have to walk on eggshells in the parent post to not get warned. I worry that saying that is enough to get me warned.
Oh wow… asahi— haven’t thought of him in ages. One of his problems was that he used to post drunk. I kinda liked him anyway. But I was in the minority.
I said I was done with this thread, but in light of the direction it has taken, I want to make something clear:
You were taken to task in the thread you linked to for violating a black-and-white rule on this forum, that you don’t argue moderation in a thread.
Discussion of moderator actions may only be had in the ATMB forum.
You were not warned. You were not suspended. You received a mod note. Yet you posted here that this was somehow “proof” that you were being singled out. I think my actions prove the exact opposite.
All the discussion about how you are being treated differently than others is a distraction and nothing more. You received a mod note for violating a rule that any other poster would have been noted for.
Can you name one right-winger that was kicked off this board just because of their political views?
Asahi got a warning for saying Republicans are insects and bacteria? But @Der_Trihs can say stuff like this all day everyday and it’s allowed? What’s the difference?
The Right is about greed, hatred, cruelty, malice, and the denial of reality - empathy and understanding other people go against everything that make it what it is. It’s always been about hurting and oppressing people and denying reality in order to justify it for as long as the concept of “right wing” has existed; longer than the US itself has.
What’s the difference?
@Der_Trihs wasn’t calling them vermin or anything else dehumanizing. None of that language is present.
As I said before:
It’s how and where you express them that can get you in trouble.
I agree completely with this post.
IIRC You bowed out a thread on gender because you could not provide any cites, and explaining the reasoning behind your position would have violated the rules.
Fenris Often said that his political views were “Right of Ronald Reagan”. He is greatly missed. For the record, he was never benned that I know of. He slowly left the SDMB of his own will to move to another message board. He hasn’t posted in a long while due to health problems. We are all very worried and hope he comes back soon…
Surely you’re not suggesting Asahi was a right winger?
Seems like your post has nothing to do with this thread.
And what was the response from the mods when you reported @Der_Trihs?
Der_Trihs wasn’t calling them vermin or anything else dehumanizing. None of that language is present.
Thanks. It’s not a distinction that feels very significant to me, but it’s good to understand the rules.
Surely you’re not suggesting Asahi was a right winger?
Of course not. I remember Asahi; he clearly earned it, but I was sad to see yet another long time poster had been banned.
I merely wanted to understand the rules better.
Asahi was given a lot of chances before he was banned. He was not banned for one post of course.
Oh wow… asahi— haven’t thought of him in ages
He somehow managed to pop in the morning after Trump’s 2024 win with a nyah.nyah style post. It had his original handle somehow despite his ban, but he was quickly cornfielded (again).
