YOU NONSMOKERS LEAVE ME THE HECK ALONE!

Excellent post, roo.

Unfortunately, it’ll be totally lost on the shmuck.

We’re dealing with a Grade A asshole here.

Valerieblaise: Accepted.

mega the roo: Not being a mind reader, how am I supposed to be aware of your personal tragedies? Appologies.

WallyM7: Fuck off asshole.

Hey, Roo, Pdlennison, Wally and anyone else who wants a ride:

I’ve re-read the thread. If I got it right, Sentinel seems to have two points:
[ul]
[li]Smoking is bad for you (and other people), but so are lots of other things, and[/li][li]anyone who ever said anything negative about smoking or smokers is just “aboard the bandwagon… [part of the] common herd…led around like sheep… [not thinking] of any alternatives because you might strain your brains…”[/li][/ul]

OK, so, I am starting a bandwagon. To get a ticket to ride, you need to sign in agreement of two points:
[li]Smoking is an unhealthy, disgusting habit, and anyone who does it in a way that offends non-smokers is a selfish, inconsiderate turd.[/li][li]Sentinel is a short-sighted, long-winded, confusing, self-contradictory, illogical blow-hard who is proud of his unhealthy, disgusting habit.[/li]
Any takers?

PSSST!sdimbert c’meer. Closer. I wanna blow smoke in your face!

Do not feed the troll.

This is Sentinel’s fourth or fifth screen name, because the others were ignored.

He’s hanging on as Sentinel because people are talking to him.

Ignore the prick and he will go away. Eventually, he’ll tire of the game. They always do. Trolls don’t have much of an attention span.

Do not feed the troll.

Wow, what a clusterfuck this has turned into. I’d jump in , but i’m trying to relax today.

WallyM7

I’m getting tired of this crap. Prove it you slimy sack of shit or shut the fuck up.

DNFTT.

Define DNFTT, please.

I’ll help you out, SentiSmell.

Do Not Feed The Troll.

Now go away. It is clear by now that everybody hates your guts.

DNFTT, people.

Luv you too COLDFIRE, now bite my ass.

At the risk of feeding said troll, I’ll just add this correction in regard to the “sponsor” of those god-damned annoying ‘The Truth’ commercials. The money comes from the American Legacy Foundation, not the Arthur De Moss Foundation (famous (or infamous) for the “Life, what a beautiful choice” anti-abortion ads).

Quote from Sentinel below:

“It’s all PC. Climb aboard the bandwagon, folks, join the common herd, get led around like sheep and try not to think of any alternatives because you might strain your brains. Sign up for the ‘TRUTH’ organization, sponsored by the Authure D. Moss foundation, which also declines to look for any alternatives because smoking the evil weed cannot be permitted.”

End quote.
The American Legacy Foundation was created out of the Master Settlement Agreement between big tobacco and the various state Attorneys General who sued the bejeezus out of the industry. The Foundation’s purpose is (my paraphrase) to educate the youth of America about the evils of sucking down that next ciggie. So, in effect, the real sponsors of the “Truth” ads are us smokers. Yah. Hooraw.

The link below leads to the National Governor’s Association (or Alliance, I forget), if anyone is interested.

Gosh, Mark, do we REALLY need to do this AGAIN? Okay, fine!

Sure, he stopped using most of those names but he has a hand full, sock full, of others. Perhaps, someday, when he accepts our love, he’ll stop using false names and trust us enough to be himself. Come on, Mark, again, we love you. Just be yourself. Don’t jump all over Wally just because you can’t be yourself; that’s not his fault.

You have a very deep character defect and can’t stand up for yourself. Try it! We might stomp you but I’m sure we’d have a lot more respect for you if you could just be one person! I know, it’s very hard to assert your opinions without all your sock puppets to back you up. Just try. Hey, we’re here to help!

Keep watching the television you rabid nonsmokers, because you’re going to start seeing a change in the no smoking news.

Several smoking friends of mine have brought it to my attention that the antismoking crowd along with the medical professionals there in have discovered a few things.

1: Many smokers cannot quit. One example I know tried, even with the patch, started having anxiety reactions that affected his job and, with his families’ agreement, started smoking again.

2: People want to smoke and will smoke so jacking up the price of smokes had finally managed to hit some important pockets because now the public bitching is starting to show up on the national news.

3: Comparisons between alcoholics and smokers have been made (sound familiar)? indicating that many smokers will not be able to stop.

4: Even with the international no-smoking push, many nations wonder why the States has gotten fanatical over it.

5: Eventually – my reasoning here, agreed with by people who you all would probably dislike because they smoke – a push will come to develop safer forms of smoking.

(Those of you thinking about quitting, might want to try Nat Sherman Cigarettes – no chemicals added though costly.)

Byz -{bitch}-intine

Obsessive compulsive are you? Obsessive at least.

Rainbowcsr: Bipolar depressive, barely functional, disabled. me NOT.

MarkSerlin: Hostile, argumentative, obvious emotional problems, hair trigger temper. (Read the Nice Guy postings). Me not.

NITWATCH: ?? (I don’t recall, actually, but not me.)

AnitaJ: FEMALE. Takes up female issues. Me I don’t.

Ladylust: FEMALE. Her pattern doesn’t even come close to any of the others. She made the mistake of posting on a couple of their posts in reply and was damned forever because of it.

Nightgirl44: FEMALE. (I like her.) Similar to myself in some areas but mainly takes the woman’s point of view. She also responded to either a post of Rainbowcsr or MarkSerlin and was forever damned because of it.

Anomaly22: ?? I don’t recall, but not me.

When have I NOT stood up for myself?

END OF DISCUSSION!! FUCK YOU!!

Sentinel, any damn loser can quit smoking. Patches and gum won’t help: you have to REALLY want to quit, and you have to be able to let your mind dominate your body for a change.

Since you do not seem to:
a) Want to quit;
b) Have a mind,
you might as well save us your insane remarks about non-existant research and unfounded scientific findings.

You are not amusing, let alone CONVINCING anyone.

What sort of masochist are you, enduring all these verbal kicks in the ass for what, two weeks now?

Pretty pathetic.

…until it killed him. And there’s a good chance his smoking gave me the allergies and asthma that plague me to this day.

Pardon me for trying to get others to avoid his fate and to save children from getting sick because their parents refuse to stop endangering their children’s health.

Sentinel, until you made this post, I had no idea you were a smoker. All I can say is, I hope we never meet.

What a bunch of bullshit! I choose not to stop because I enjoy it. I know of people who have tried and tried again to stop but always restarted. I even know of ONE person who stopped smoking, grew ill and her doctor actually reluctantly told her to start again. She did and felt better.

345 people a week die from alcohol related causes. The antismoking ads far outnumber the anti-drinking ones. One no smoking ad stated 1000 people a day die from smoking related diseases, which is an out right bunch of crap. We have 245 million people in the US. That would be
364,000 a year. Having worked in medicine for ages, I disagree with those figures and disagree with the blatant statement that smoking is the number 1 US killer.

jab1
Suits me just fine. Fanatics piss me off anyhow.

coldfire:
What an ass you are. Seriously addicted people cannot quit anything they are addicted to without more effort than you can possibly imagine.

Wait about 6 months and watch the changes in the news and in the medical reports. I’ve known people who have smoke moderately for ages and are in their 70s and 80s and their doctors report that their lungs are clear and they are cancer free. Bitch, piss and moan all you want but aside from raising the price of smokes, little will be accomplished in the long run – except the production of safer cigarettes.

For that, I guess we smokers will have to thank you all.

Someone griped that America produces most of the tobacco, or at least a huge amount of it, for other nations and felt it needed to be stopped. Well, hell, we banned DDT here in the States as being too dangerous on many levels BUT still produce and sell it to other nations. Money talks and bullshit walks. (By the way, that DDT? We get it back in the form of imported vegetables from nations who use it on their crops. WE are not allowed to use the nasty stuff on crops here – but they can and we buy their produce.)

Why thank you. Coming from you, that’s almost a compliment.

Sentinel, you make it sound like nicotine is some sort of highly addictive drug like crack. It isn’t. Sure, it is addictive. But while there are some minor side effects, your body is not going to turn its back on you when you quit.
Assuming the example you named is true (the woman getting ill after quiting), there must be another underlying psychological factor. Which immediately covers your enitre “seriously addicted people” group. By the way, your claim that a doctor told this woman to resume smoking to cure her “illness” can’t be anything else than an outright lie. If anything, a good doctor would have suggested a phychologist’s treatment if the patient thought she was ill because she quit smoking.

An addiction to nicotine is 10% physical and 90% mental. The side effects of quiting are negligable, even for a long time chain smoker. All the trouble quiters experience is mental, and can be easily overcome by a any normal, stable person.

Take it from someone who used to smoke a pack and a half of Gauloises, up till four months ago.

Oh, and you’re an ass too. However, I’ll bet you good money that people will actually agree with me when I say such a thing.

coldfire

You’re still an ass.

I’ve known some heavy smokers to put the smokes down after decades of puffing away and never look back. I’ve also known smokers who have had to get medical assistance to stop - ranging from tranquilizers to hypnotism, plus the use of the over the counter aids like the patch or the gum. Then I’ve known those who even with all of the assistance, have taken several tries to stop and some have failed.

Nicotine, the last I heard, is one of the most addictive drugs out. Combine that with someone who has the addiction gene and you have problems.

Whether you believe me or not about the lady who had to restart smoking for her health is a moot point.

As for my persistence in this thread, it ought to be obvious. One does not start a discussion and then flee because it gets intense and should I do so, no doubt I would be ridiculed for not responding and my lack of response would be touted as some form of admission of my being wrong.

“Addiction gene”? Surely, you MUST be kidding.

Is this your jargon-of-the-day for “lack of character”?
If not, please provide evidence for the following statements:

1) “There is such a thing as an addiction gene”;
2) “Scientific research has rendered evidence that nicotine is (one of) the most addictive drug(s) known to man”.

Thank you, and good luck.
